Had a new Explorer2 for my birthday ...

Set up on my Mac Book Pro following M instructions... I tried to play my only MQA album- Amy Duncan Undercurrents. I have to play this through Roon.

Happy to see the blue LED light up on the Explorer2, but the moment I reduced the volume from 100% it reverted to three white lights.

Do I suppose there is some kind of conflict with the Roon volume controls and the Mac? If so how to get over this because at 100% it's way to loud.

I reduced the output in audio midi set up, but this did not help, nor did other sundry tinkering.

I expect the answer is simple and others have faced this problem.

Thanks
Huw

PS now played again with audio midi set up and this reduces the master volume. But the Roon volume still kills the MQA if it's reduced from 100%

The volume control within the Explorer2 need adjusting but the input still needs to be 100%.

I can't remember what we did when I set up a friends from Roon but we did succeed.

Huw,

You need to set up Roon so that the Roon volume control uses the volume control of the Explorer 2 rather than itself adjusting the volume within Roon.

You have to go down several levels of Roon audio setup menus in order to find the correct settings and then it took me a couple of goes to get it right as not all the options show up until various other settings have been adjusted accordingly.

It is not as bad as my paragraphs above suggest, it is just that you will probably need to have a play with the settings until you find the correct combination.

I hope some of the above made sense.

John

Got my son on the case - he is our Roon expert here

After a lot at faffing about we are sorted - not always straightforward or logical. Some of the Roon instructions are slightly ambiguous (or we are stupid). It essentially boils down to ensuring the Explorer2 output is managed by Roon and not the Mac.

NB in my case the Mac is the remote device. Roon master is on a PC.

Also another caution do not deauthorise one device vs another. If you do it wipes the entire Roon database on the device being deauthorised , so you have to rebuild. I did that and he was not best pleased. There is no alert that tells you this is about to happen.

Any how we got there in the end.

I expect you know that Roon remotes do not function unless Roon is up and running on the Master device, so it pays not to install on a mobile device/ laptop, otherwise the house becomes dysfunctional if the laptop is elsewhere.

Best regards Huw

By the way as postcript to solving this problem , I downloaded the 2L Mozart violin Concertos MQA remix. I was a bit worried about "remix" but it sounds pretty damn good!

Comparison on Explorer 2 vs the Tidal version is very distinct.
Using Roon a lot more now I have it sorted

All the best
Huw

Not sure what you did or how it happened ... but deauthorising Roon does not wipe the database.

OK Carl I did feel rather innocent at the time, but got severely berated. I will take this up again, because I was rather surprised something like that would happen from this action which must be rather common.
Best regards Huw
