I am currently running Roon into my 818v2 via USB. This means that suddenly my 192kHz tracks are going into the 818v2 as 192kHz.

I think this sounds better than when Roon down samples from 192kHz to 96kHz and then streams over the network to the ID41.

Has anyone else done this comparison?

Hi Nic

Not yet, but I plan to give it a try soon.

Interesting as in both routes the 192 is being down-sampled by Meridian code... either in Roon or on the 818.

I wonder what could make the difference?

I'm not sure that is still the case with Roon. I believe it's standard library downsampling. I'll check.

And even if it is Meridian code, I wonder whether they would have given them 800-series code for it...

I may be imagining it, but in my defence I heard the sound difference before realising the connection was running at a different speed.

My understanding is also that it's Meridian down-sampling code in Roon.

Had to look up where I had read that, but Brian from Roon says here that sample rate conversion is "accomplished using a couple of very high-quality synchronous SRC implementations developed at Meridian."

Thanks. I knew I had read it somewhere.
