D1500 and D2500 go down to 30Hz (target price D1500 £200, D2500 £250)
SW1600 and SW5500 to 20Hz (target price SW1600 £500, SW5500 £700).

Guessing a bit on prices as I got mine a long time ago.

Easily integrated with Legacy Comms. See user guides on Duncan's Meridian Info for typical connections.

I would recommend 2 x SW1600, if you can find them, for the best results.

However there are other non M options.

I hate to cast dispersions on M, as I"m a super-fan, but my understanding about these older subs is that they are slow and nowhere near state of the art. I would test them provisionally with your 5200s, but my guess is that they won't integrate well with the 5200s much faster performance.

Of course, your ears are what matter.

That's what I always thought, but I bought a cheap D1500 sub, and was really impressed with it.

I think the problem was it was expensive for what it is, for the same money you could buy a Rel Stentor at the time that was much better.

If this is for stereo listening, you'd ideally want stereo subs, at the current price of all this gear, I'd sell the 5200's and use the money you'd get for those plus what you'd have spent on the subwoofers on some nice 6Ks. You'll get a huge upgrade across the board and the bass will be plentiful and well integrated.

Cujo, why not buy the SE upgrade for your 5k2s? This would significantly improve your speakers with new electronics and tweeters. And it would also give you the benefit of SpeakerLink and MQA. And, to address your query with regard to bass, it would give you EBA. All of this would improve the quality of your bass.

Thank you for your suggestion ASA,

However, going SE is quite pricy and I dont even know if that is a possible option (trade in, as my 5200 serial starts with 2007) in my country.

I have emailed Meridian to see if this is possible (and the costs for such an upgrade as I am in the same boat as you).

But my choice is to pair the 5200s with a pair of subs and this is the route I had chosen but will now wait till I get the reply from Meridian.

Per 3/13/14 headquarters post about the 25th anniversary special edition upgrade program, 5200s with serial numbers beginning with 1or 2 and not upgradeable.

Hi Cujo and Colin the Robot

Here is a possible low cost option if you really wish to increase bass.

Radical I know, but consider selling the 5200 non SpeakerLink L & R and buying the best possible Smiley DSP5K pair you can find + 2 x SW1600.

The result could be very pleasing. Works for me.

The plan is to upgrade slowly so while I will be selling the 5200's eventually this will be to swap them for SpeakerLink 5200's.

But thanks for the advice (and offer smile )

So now all I have to do is start saving for the subs.
