Do Meridian support Roon as a streamer to their endpoints, discussions over the inability to update endpoint firmware without a Sooloos core suggest they might not?

My interpretation is that this implicitly states there can / must be communication between Sooloos and other Applications - in our particular case of interest *Roon* - in some form or another.
Controls? Perhaps not, but some communication has to exist to enable the Sooloos *bespoke* database to be watched.

In a particular case of interest, this means that - for example - the highest-end Sooloos configuration (which probably includes an ID40 / ID41 card) must be able to communicate with / support the protocols of external software applications.
Then, once the "door is open" for communications, where are the limits...?

Comments from the Roon team elsewhere (some more research / digging is required - all help is appreciated !) suggested that the agreed integration would be fuller from the offset - i.e. not just "watching" the Sooloos library, but actual streaming.

Or?

I know of more friends (non HH) who have bought Meridian endpoints for use with Roon than that have bought Sooloos cores. I'm sure Meridian will not cut off their nose to spite their face, when Roon could be a very simple way for them to sell more endpoints.

I agree. I am in discussion with several now interested folks who would never have bought a whole Sooloos system. With just endpoints they becomes much more realistic.

I agree with your statements, maybe Meridian HQ could comment on my original question, is Roon supported?
I suspect no answer will be forthcoming and as a result of not knowing I am now looking very seriously at other equipment suppliers with a view to changing most of the current system and moving away from Meridian.

Cheers

Russ

That's a very good question.

There are a few members on this forum who have jettisoned their Meridian cores - have they been able to upgrade their endpoint firmware?

Is there any technical reason why the Roon core software could not be installed on an MC200 or and MD600?

A starting point would be to solve the problem of having Sooloos and Roon cores running at the same time. I like the extra functionality of Roon but I can't be bothered to turn off the Sooloos core (which powers many rooms in the house and is understood by all in the family) every time I want to use Roon.

I've kept a cheap Core as back up. Even my elderly Source:Five still gets updates, and I suspect the price of these has fallen further from where I bought it.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Perhaps it's Roon that should comment, after all it's their system they want people to buy into.

The capacity to adapt to hardware evolution is essential. If firmware updates are not possible without buy-in to Sooloos as well, I don't think the model is sustainable in the long term.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Hi dpstjp

Thank you for your comment. Toxic or not?

If you eat whole apple seeds (pips), they pass through your digestive system relatively untouched. If you chew the seeds thoroughly, you will be exposed to the chemicals (cyanide for one) inside the seeds, but the dose of toxins in an apple is small enough that your body can easily detoxify it. sick

Any new core should be toxin free

Well Hector, if the Apple Music launch is anything to go by we can forget them ever being a player in our high end audio world.

Actually even their low res offering is not compelling - pretty hopeless all round- and that's putting it mildly!
