I need to replace the PSU in my G68 and this would be a good time to go to the linear. I know this topic has been discussed in great detail. Yet, there seems to be little consensus. Or am I wrong and there is a go-to PSU?

No one wants to touch this? I found the following:

XP ECM40UT3 is the newer version
UMEC UPO653S-01 is the older version

But this is old info. Any updates?

There's quite a long thread on LPS replacement options - you might do better posting to the end of that.

Cheers, Ian

Marc Koval replaced the PSU in the G68 I used to own. Great response time and also made shipping arrangements. If you still have the original packaging, then it is really easy. Good luck.

Marc Koval also replaced my G61R power supply with a LPS. Highly recommended.

Thanks for all your replies. Marc Koval repaired my G57 and it came back sounding better than ever.

Is a very simple change - I had to do my G61R, think the PSU just came from Farnell.

One note of caution - I recall there is a tech note somewhere that you have to set the output of the PSU to exactly 5.00V as measured on the PCB using a trimmer pot on the PSU.

Compatible PSUs may not have this trim feature (or if you are lucky might be accurate enough anyway!).

Actually, people have found the G68 more stable with the voltage set to 5.2

When I replaced mine (via the wiki instructions) the voltage was hovering at 5.0\4.9 for that particular rail and I had had some issues.

The voltage is set to 5.1V at the factory. Anything less than 5.0V can result in instability and anything more than 5.2V could damage components. 5.1V is "the place to be".

Edit: IMPORTANT. 5.1V is recommended for G61R, G61SL, and the various G68s. 5.2V is recommended for the 861v4.

I've always found the strict voltage tolerance for the G68 surprising. I suspect (but have zero evidence for) that the voltage dropping from 5.1 to 5.0 is a symptom of a failing PSU and that considerably greater fluctuations occur when the unit is working hard and the PSU is under load.
