I've stopped the export to iTunes, it still hadn't got very far (relative to the size of my library having been running it for quite a while.

I've taken Ronnie/ncpl's advice and set up a sync using FreeFileSync that only copies .MP3 and cover.jpg files from my Store to a folder on my hard drive that I can point iTunes to.

This is significantly quicker (2% of 227 GB already) and as long as I don't have iTunes automatically organize my Music Library I ought to be able to incrementally update the files when I like.

I can also exclude files in my official Sooloos back up with the word "transcoded" in it so I don't end up carting MP3 files around when I already have a lossless master copy.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Good stuff. Freefilesync is a nice app isn't it?

Picking exclusions etc is a good way to streamline it all.

If you want to automate it, then save the sync job as a batch file. Then add the batch to the task scheduler. I have mine set for every night at 03.00 and it works really well.
My backup is only ever 24 hours old.

I'm struggling to exclude all files called "transcode*.MP3" in the exclusion filter for the main back up.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any thoughts?

[Edit] Sorted the instructions say use a backslash, in fact you need to use a forward slash. [/Edit]

I think an OSX tweak and so far reboot, reinstall etc etc hasn't worked frown
How exactly are M aware? Have you logged it with a PP and had confirmation?
Useful to know as some folks will see M later today at MWL.

The message above usually indicates a firewall issue. This is likely after an OS update. Have you checked that?
Sorry for the delay. I mentioned to the guys at M and through my PP. We're working through the options. The plot has thickened somewhat as it works differently on my two Mac's which makes me wonder if I've something local clashing...

My desktop is where my iTunes sync's to. When I was having the issues above on there, the other things that was happening (in activity monitor) was that the SooloosHelper and SyncCompanion were going crazy, and running at 100% CPU, which eventually stopped running (not responding). It needed complete uninstall of Control:Mac and reboot of everything to stop those processes running crazy.

Each time you then reinstalled Control:Mac and "opened it", those processes started running flat out again.

BUT...

I also have Control:Mac running on my laptop, as well as M on my iPhone and iPad. If I run Control:Mac on my laptop, while I still get the same comments in the Export tab and can't export, I don't have the two processes going mental in the background. They just sit as normal at 0.1% CPU usage or there abouts.

Clearly more digging to do. Differences between? Well my iMac desktop is hard connected (not NAS) to my server where all the content is stored. And that desktop version of Control:Mac was the one that pointed the iTunes export to thr server. Apart from that they're almost identical.

Weird one!

I have a Macbook Pro that doesn't like Sooloos helper. I upgraded to 10.9.3, reinstalled Control:Mac and helper briefly appeared, then disappeared frown This was a clean install of 10.9 as well, very little additional software running.

I have another Macbook Pro running 10.8 with no problem with Sooloos helper and an iMac 10.9.3 no problem with Sooloos helper. So I'm not cornered.

I've reinstalled everything and still burning down the activity monitor so very strange. Maybe just leave it and see if it settles. My Server sounds like there's something going crazy on it, so maybe something is still sync'ing...

I've brought the newly Cored Source:Five down to the IoW. Check.

I've brought the fully synced hard drive down to the IoW. Check.

I've brought the clone station down to the IoW as the old USB housing doesn't work with 3TB drives. Check.

Sadly the MacMini down here is 10.6.8 and can't go any further. Sadly FreeFileSync won't work with less than 10.7. Damn.

OK, I swap to Bootcamp, which runs Windows 7. This runs FreeFileSync perfectly. It sees the USB drive fine, but won't let me browse to the SMB: of the TwinStore. Damn and double damn.

Any thoughts?

Try Sync Two Folders version 2.0 from this page.

Developer says that version is compatible with Snow Leopard... current 2.1 version is compatible with 10.7 and above only.

Click on the link above and scroll down to the 2nd last link... and download.

I've used this App previously and find it quite good for what you're looking to do, which is obviously Sync two folders on 2 different drives. If you open the Log link from the Menu, it will provide a log of what file it's Syncing etc.

Not sure which "Clone Station" you are talking about, but would strongly recommend either this or this one

Either will allow you to

a) insert the 3-4Tb drive from your Home Sooloos MD600 (IIRC??) and clone it to a new 3-4Tb Drive... process should take about 4-5 hours total.

b) bring the Cloned drive down to your IOW system and simply insert it into the TwinStore (??) you have there.

The File Syncing is also a very useful way to do things, but Cloning is much quicker and in the end a more robust way of doing things.

The main advantage you would see is that you only ever have ONE Sync or Clone to do... which can happen overnight... no Sync / Clone would be necessary at IOW, as you would simply insert the Clone into the TwinStore [and the other Mirror would then "catch up"].
