For those wanting some Hi Res opera, Gergiev's first Ring opera is available for download.

Die Walkure - Valery Gergiev

Probably the best cast the world can afford us today. Not sure about Pape's Wotan though, and the third act is not as viscerally exciting as some; rather more lyrical in tone. Act I, however is a blinder!

You can sample it here:

Walkure samples

Not sure what bit rate the stereo mix on this will be, but it is a better sung and conducted alternative:

Barenboim's Bayreuth 'Ring Cycle' on Bluray

I've still got my Solti/Decca set with recordings now 50 to 60 years old!

You can get these recorded at 24/48 off the Bluray that comes with the recent deluxe set. Not cheap, mind you.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Just bought the Sigur Ros Valtari Mystery Film Bluray.

Audio is 24/48 PCM, though I haven't had a chance to look for padding.

Just spotted that David Bowies' new album is available on Qobuz in 24/96. I really wish they'd tell you pre release whether hirez downloads will be available.

HDTracks has this in 24/48. Seems odd. What's the betting that Qobuz have upsampled...?

Bowie's album is really good. Still a class act. Steven Wilson's album 'The Raven who Refused to Sing' is also really good (unlike his latest print interviews where he sounds as dumb as George Lucas trying to rewrite history). His production skills are extraordinary however.

Another CD/BD to look forward to is Joe Bonamassa's 'Acoustic Night' show due out later this month . He's the most gifted Rock/Blues guitar player going at the moment.

Do you have the Bonamassa live at The Beacon Theatre on Bluray? Superb, we saw him in Brighton, really Class act.

Hi Russ,

Yes I have that and the Albert Hall Show a few years ago too. He's playing the Albert Hall later this month again, he really loves the venue. Saw him over here with Black Country Communion last year, they did an unbelievable version of Deep Purple's 'Burn' .

Opened for B.B. King at age 12!

Top Man!

Cheers!

I'm just going to recommend 6Music (BBC). IMO, the best popular music radio station in the UK, bar none.

Tonight's Depeche Mode oriented playlist.

Can I heartily recommend Revere? I saw them by accident last year in Hoxton, and I had the great pleasure of hosting an acoustic set in my sitting room last night (sounds bonkers, I know, but worth every penny). Even forsook their electric keyboard for our "Joanna".

They were truly charming and wonderfully talented. Last album was great and having heard a few new songs the next will be even better.

If you're looking for a unique experience in London with a few choice friends I can't think of anything finer. Very happy to put anyone who fancies a similar experience in touch with them.

But was the Revere acoustic performance in your living room at 96/24? wink

I have just downloaded two albums from a band that I saw quite a few times in my university days, In the region of the Summer Stars and Aerie Faerie Nonsense by The Enid.
Both are now available in 24-96 from there website and I can thoroughly recommend them. Excellent stuff!!

Time Out - "Pink Floyd meets the Berlin Philharmonic”
