I'm about to load a USB drive with music. What would be the best file format to use? I'm looking to get the best replay in the Evoque.

Thanks,
Roy

I know nothing but it has to be FLAC.

(what's the envy emoticon?)

What file formats does the system support? Do you have a user guide?

If it supports FLAC that would be my bag, and you can do a native export from your Sooloos system (assuming you've either ripped CD's or have imported FLAC files in to it) without the hassle of transcoding.

Carl

I don't think FLAC is supported, I will just check in the manual (That would have been too easy).

No as suspected FLAC is not supported, only MP3, WMA and AAC.

No FLAC support that's bonkers.

MP3: MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 Audio Layer III, is a patented encoding format for digital audio which uses a form of lossy data compression.

AAC: Advanced Audio Coding is a standardized, lossy compression and encoding scheme for digital audio. Designed to be the successor of the MP3 format, AAC generally achieves better sound quality than MP3 at similar bit rates.

WMA: Windows Media Audio is an audio data compression technology developed by Microsoft. WMA consists of four distinct codecs.
-- WMA, the original codec, was conceived as a competitor to the popular MP3.
-- WMA Pro, a newer and more advanced codec, supports multichannel and high resolution audio.
-- WMA Lossless, compresses audio data without loss of audio fidelity.

So the next question is does it support WMA Lossless or just the original Lossy format?

Regards,
Carl

+1 on no FLAC support.

They had this issue when they only allowed 1k memory (I'm exaggerating here slightly, but not by much) on the last auto hifi they did.

Do the guys (I sweepingly assume they're all male, women would have more sense) in the auto dept not talk to the rest of M?

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

The three above are the only ones listed in the manual.

Word on some of the Evoque forums is that Meridian insisted, when ripping a CD to the on-board HDD that it had to be 1:1 Which only leaves room for 10 CDs. And yet the system will only play lossless files on the AUX input, very bizarre.

I will try a few file type's and see if any work.

Thanks

Roy

I would have thought MP3s encoded at 320kbps would be perfectly adequate for a car environment. Don't take my word for it. Do some A/B testing on your main system of FLAC vs 320MP3. They would also give you more space.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Yes, I'd agree with this. My Merc has the Harman Kardon high end audio kit and high rate MP3 sounds very good. In the auto environment, I can't imagine much improvement from lossless.

One issue is that a high dynamic range is useless in a car due to the high noise floor (even in the most silent vehicle).

Well, WMA Lossless didn't work......so will give MP3 a go.
Listened to the same CD in the Evoque and then in my Range Rover Vogue (Harmen Karden) The difference is night and day. (In favor of the Meridian of course).

Thanks
