Hello Boson74,

From your wiring description the "Master Speaker" (the one that controls volume for all the other speakers) should be the Centre cause that is the one you have connected coms cable to the G68.

The master speaker should have a little red LED in the display on the top of the speaker. If no red LED then that is the problem. NOTE, that only ONE of your speakers should be "Master" and have the red LED lit.

Other than that, your wiring is exactly the same as I used when I had a G68. I did not use a "511 patch box" I just "daisy chained" the comms around the speakers as you are doing. You can happilly mix BNC and DIN coms cables, I did without any problem.

When comms works, all speakers should show the volume going up or down as you use the remote control. If there is no sound coming out despite volume display on speakers responding to remote OK, then check:

1, That the SPDIF cables go onto each speaker to the "1" input on the back of the speaker and not accidently into the "2" input.
2, I have twice had no volume out of speakers cause of a solder dry jount in the SPDIF plug on one of the Meridian cables.

Regards,
Shaun

I know this must be frustrating for you guys that have been trying to help a novice like me, and I appreciate. All I'm going for now is to get 2 of the 5200s to work since I don't have an S511.

The G68D has 1 BNC comm out, I have that going to my left speaker which is labelled master/left and going into its BNC input, I then have a BNC output going from that speaker to the BNC input of my right speaker which is labelled right/slave.

From the digital out section of the G68D I have one RCA going from main L/R into my left speakers digital input 1. I have another RCA going from that speakers digital out going into the right speakers digital input 1.

Is this wiring right? If it is at least I know I got that part right which means I have "wizard" issues.

If you have the proper Meridian speaker cable with audio (phono) and comms (din) on same cable I would not bother with BNC comms and use the far more common DIN comms from the M5/C5 leads instead.

You will find the 2 DIN sockets in the top middle rear of the G68D.

When last installed the system was set up without the Meridian DIN comms, it used the digital and BNC comms; where are the Meridian comms available to buy?

Btw. I was able to add the center speaker in the chain and it works perfectly. All I need now is a few more power cords and another role of coax, and I hope to be in business.

I am definitely interested in those Meridian comms though so if some one has a link I would appreciate it.

Once again thanks for all your guys patience in helping me out.

Now why can't I just "Come Into" a Meridian system like that?

Your on a big learning curve, enjoy it. Cheers, Chris smile

To be honest, if you don't have the cables that would originally supplied with the speakers and you already have enough digital audio cable that you are happy to use, then I would stick with what you have and persevere with BNC comms. You are fortunate that your kit is relatively new G series/5200's so can stick with all BNC without having to use adapters or dongles to mix with DIN or speakerlink comms - all electrically/protocol compatible just different package.

Hi and welcome to the forum, don't worry about being a 'Meridian Newbie' we have all been there. It sounds like you starting to make good progress, excellent. The key thing with Meridian is that it is not plug & play one really does have to read and re-read the manuals.

As for not a having a 511 DSP DIN Comms Patch Box you don't need one as you can daisy chain the comms (BNC / DIN) from G68 to DSP to DSP to DSP etc. The 511 just helps to tidy up the cabling if you are using Meridians M5 and S5 leads that have both Digital Audio & DIN Comms connectors on them.

Whilst the G68 wizard is good I do recommend you go to the Meridian Software site and download the Common Installer on to PC with this you can get the Meridian Configuration application that can be used as an alternative to the wizard and does offer more feature like showing you how to connect up the kit and also for when your feeling ready for another adventure runs Meridian Room Correction software (MRC) that can help with bass issues.
Once you get in to multi-channel audio you will need to calibrate your system: for this your will need a tape measure, a SPL meter and a tripod/mic-stand to hold it steady.

Do keep us informed on how you’re getting on. Read and re-read the manuals and then ask away.
But most of all enjoy the music.

Regards,
Carl

All done!! Well almost.

Have all 5 speakers wired and working. They sound great. Going to download the program mentioned above and pick up the required computer cable today. One thing I don't really have access to is an SPL meter. Is there any other option?

If you have an iPhone/iPad try the SPL Meter app by Studio Six Digital.
