Because I think a Picture paints a Thousand Words.........consider the Screenshots below from the "Remote" App which can be used to control an iTunes Library on a Remote Mac..........and then Output the Album / Track / Playlists over the Digital or Async USB Connections into a Meridian Processor.......all whilst applying Upsampling / Min Phase / Apodizing options and very low jitter due to the Async USB Connection

As I am travelling at the moment, I had to base the Screenshots below on the much smaller Library that I have on my SSD based Laptop...........if I had used the Remote App to "access" my Full Library, then many of the Screenshots would have been more descriptive.........but I think the Pics give a good idea of what's possible

It should be noted that some of the 3rd Party SB and other Apps are following a similar path of Album Artwork, with Tabs for Albums, Artists etc.......and Powerfully Simple "Google" Type Search Boxes............Desktop Equivalents of the iPad App offer even more Power and User Choice

Pics below also available in a Slideshow at Sooloos iPad App Suggestions

For another interesting take on a Music App, consider the Kaleidescape App below

The Music App is detailed about 0:20 in

And lastly, I'd say that IMHO the biggest difference between the Sooloos and other Music Library Players is the fact that

Sooloos Discards the AMG Track Information Metadata........which means that Compilation Albums in particular are compromised

As are Classical and Opera Albums & Performances

This would need to be changed by Sooloos before some of the more sophisticated Searches are possible

Makes sense. To me the data base is not good. For those with classical collections there needs to be more emphasis on COMPOSER, rather than artist.

Sooloos has potential, but it does have a way to go. IMHO it serves the pop and jazz collections well now but not serious classical collections. It is not a disaster, but can be very frustrating and exasperating in its present form.

I would have to disagree.......In many ways, the lack of Track Based Data affects Rock, Jazz and "Pop" music in as many, if not more, ways than Classical or Opera...........and I have many Albums in all Genres, so I'm going from personal experience

I am in a similar situation as the OP. I have been considering an MC200 as a one box solution, already have an iPad.

Currently I have an iMac with music stored on an external firewire drive, an airport extreme router ethernet to an Apple TV2, optical out to a PS Audio PerfectWave DAC/Pre to Bryston mono blocks to Dynaudio speakers.

Actually it sounds way better than it has right to considering that some would not go near the ATV2 because it is not bit perfect. Maybe the PWD is compensating with it's sample rate converter and apodizing filter. Don't know for sure. I am using straight iTunes and the Apple remote app on the iPad. The remote app is a great UI.

But, I do like the idea of the simplicity of the MC200 as a one box solution. I think it is a bit expensive, and I am waiting to see what happens with the Sooloos iPad update (when it happens). I could get the PS Audio bridge card for a smaller investment, but that would require also getting a NAS and PS Audio has had lots of challenges with the bridge card and software interface.

I am curious whether the MC200 would sound great out of the analogue outputs or if going digital out to the PWD would yield better results.

Al

As you say, the Apple TV2 is not Bit Perfect.....as it converts all CD 16/44 Material to 16/48 on the fly.......which is not a desirable conversion

The MC200 will sound a lot better due to its Lower Jitter Design and Apodizing

You would need to compare the the MC200's Analog Outs with the MC200 Digital Out to the PWD, with the PWD acting as the DAC

As a recent member of the Sooloos club (MC200, ID40 and iPad), I've been quite satisfied. I've no plans to chuck my CD collection anytime soon, but as high quality way to consume HD downloads and things like the Beatles USB, Sooloos works well.

Another example of an iPad app whose design ideas might be useful for the Sooloos version

Again, it's easy to see how the Navigation options might be used

* 5 by 4 = 20 Album Grid Cover Art for general Browsing......

* Quick Tabs for Artist, Albums, Genre, Composer etc. along the top allow for quick changes

* Powerful Search box......means you don't have to go to another screen to conduct Search

* Currently Playing Artwork.......and Queue on the Left

* Alphabet on Right for Quick Scrolling thru long lists

Here's hoping the new Sooloos App is even better laid out than this

And to add a Reviewer's Quote

Quote:
The Aurender iPad application is the best software interface I've yet seen outside of a full Meridan-Sooloos system. I was very impressed at the speed with which search results were displayed.

As I typed in Steely Dan the search results dwindled with every letter until only Steely Dan remained on the screen. Scrolling through the album art with the flick of a finger was as fast as any app I've seen.

Literally there was no delay. Browsing by Artist, Album, Track, Genre was very intuitive. Search results can also be filtered by selecting Artist, Genre, etc. Upon locating an album or track for playback it's simple to press and hold a finger on the selection that causes a popup menu to appear. Options such as Play Now, Add to playlist, etc… are available from this menu.

I too am considering wether to Sooloos or not.

I have a G98 sitting unused & am tempted by the trade in offer to get an MC200.

The question for me is would I get much of an improvement in SQ over my mac mini/ PureMusic/Halide bridge ?

From what I gather in other posts/threads the biggest improvement in SQ would come with the addition of an MS600 at a later date (when funds allow).

Does anyone have any experience comparing the sound quality from an asynchronous USB setup to an MC200 ?

Thanks

Justin
