Hildur Guđnadóttir - Without Sinking

Talented Icelandic cellist who has played with Gavin Bryars, created a wonderful instrumental cello album. On the ambient, Eno-Harold Budd, side.
Very very entertaining if you enjoy works like "Sinking of the Titanic" by Bryars.

Great albums but you missed "Concerts in China" and "Zoolook" from that list. wink

Which version of "Equinoxe" do you have? I have an original issue (Disques Dreyfus) on CD and there's some crackles on replay so I'm interested to see if it's a mastering fault or just my copy.....

I have the remastered (1997 ?) version : 01-487376-10
No crackles that I can recall - and I'm playing it through a SB-Touch (lossless) so it should be bit-perfect.

Oh, and I have the other albums of course - as well as Destination Docklands - and many more.... ;-)

A current favourite, and highly recommended if you enjoy ambient/atmospheric music:

Jonsi and Alex "Riceboy Sleeps"

If you like the more contemplative tracks from Sigur Ros, you'll probably get a lot out of this album. Melodic, ethereal, and with more going on than most ambient music I've heard, it has some hauntingly beautiful pieces.

Cheers

George

Destination Docklands, I was there. It was a great night and the Light effects were fantastic. I looked like the biuldings were on fire.

Thanks for the memory their....Chris smile

Thanks for that recommendation, I have enjoyed the Sigur Ros "Heim/Harf" double album as well so this is on its way from Amazon. I have also sampled Jonsi's solo album and didn't like it (so I would have never listened to Riceboy sleeps if it wasn't for this posting!)

Well, I have to confess to being a massive Tangerine Dream fan, with circa 50 albums between vinyl and CD! (mostly the latter now). Plenty to enjoy over the 150 odd years they have been around, but my favourite period would be the early eighties stuff. I think the past ten years has seen old Edgar run out of steam (the founder of the band), and I don't think the present line up contributes anything to the writing (unlike previous line ups).

Recommended albums from this period to get you going:

Logos
Tournado
Antarktis

Cheers

I was loitering outside a shop in The Lanes in Brighton waiting for the missus to finish whatever it is women do for hours on end in shops, when I heard a guy with a guitar busking.

He really was very good, quite a crowd had gathered. Unfortunately a big issue seller wandered up and kicked him off his pitch, so as he was packing away I just had enough time to buy a CD off him. Its not something I normally do, but Ive hardly stopped playing it since.

So if you like folksy guitar and vocals, you may want to check him out.

His website is http://www.myspace.com/passengerofficial

The CD I have is Wide Eyes Blind Love and the band is called Passenger.

I will be buying his other CDs as a matter of course. The production quality is excellent as well.

Cheers
Greg
