Repurposing C10/C15 to Roon controls

Now that I have amassed a few C10/C15 units, seven total (6) C10 one of which is black and (1) C15. I am embarking on a project to reuse the enclosures as controls for Roon.

I have on order a 17” capacitive touch monitor to replace the resistive touch unit. Will swap out the Windows CPU with a Mac Mini running touchscreen software. All of the items should fit within the enclosure without issue.

If anyone foresee a potential obstacle in this venture, I would be interested.

Does ROCK run touchscreen? Wondering if a NUC might be an option over the Mac Mini.

No, ROCK runs Roon Server which is headless (ie there is no GUI).

It could be a NUC but it would have to run Windows so the full Roon application can be run.

Have you opened up a Control 10/15 yet? There isn't much room in there. It's been a long time since I was inside mine, but the mainboard is attached to the back of the screen. How do you plan on mounting a Mac Mini, are you just going to use the board? Still may be a tight fit.

What touch monitor did you order? Does it work with Mac? Will you need a separate power supply from the computer?

A NUC might be a better option as mentioned. They're physically smaller than a Mac Mini so may be easier to fit inside. They can be ordered with Windows installed so running Roon client shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure the touchscreen would have Windows drivers.

The optical drive is obviously in the bottom separately, not sure if you want to use that portion?

Are you using this as an audio endpoint or just for control?

I am more leaning towards using the 12.9 1st gen iPad Pro. The software that came with the touch screen was not as responsive as I would have liked compared to the iPad. Another advantage with the iPad is that if a call comes in while listening to music I can easily answer via FaceTime.

i hope this repurposed C10/15 is giving you a lot of happiness! It looks very good.
I miss the elegant styling of the C10 in my Living Room. I don't miss the blue screens and the lockups!

Thanks for the compliment and I totally agree with your assessment of the C10. At first I thought that I would miss the extra screen area. The smooth response and the ability to take phone calls when they come in is pretty sweet. I will convert my others in the same manner.

Is this a Bang & Olufsen stand you are using to support the C10?

Yes.

If you have a poke around the OS there is either a folder with info or a driver which calls out the manufacturer of the touchscreen. Having checked a few years back they made a capacitive version of the Same screen.

The mobo in the case is a microatx and so there are plenty of opportunities to significantly upgrade and have roon installed.
