A new MSR2 remote will be coming with new products that include an IR remote such as 8XX, Ultra Dac, 8000,7200, 5200, G65 etc. If you need one separately they will be $200.00 US MSRP.

Any photos yet? Does it have any additional functionality over the MSR+?

EDIT: Just found this ... MSR2 it's a slim hand held device rather than a table top.

Carl

Hasn’t the MSR2 name already been used?

I notice a button marked Net... Couldn’t they say Sooloos in?

I think I prefer my table top design at least I can still customise the buttons curing the “net” button 😉

Thanks for this Bruce. Does feel like the end of an era though.

I kind of like the idea of the wand style remote. Maybe no high pitched whine from the backlight on this one.

Hi Bruce

Are the buttons on this backlit? Great if they are, although the photo makes it look unlikely. Is the "star" button relevant here?

Cheers

I hope this means support RAAT, I'd love new kit and product updates to support RAAT ... let's see.

I quite like a wand-style remote. Nothing against the old MSR/+, but it does take up a lot of table real-estate.

Are those the final button labels though? Do they have custom buttons/different options available? The latter would make sense given that the more modern equipment can support custom labelling over SpeakerLink.

+1 that would be great.

It would appear that M have gone for the $4 remote platform made by 'Universal Electronics', available under the 'One-For-All' brand name amongst others.

Badged for other brands they retail around the $25-$30 mark.

Cheers,
Jason.

Universal Electronics also do voice control remote - that might be novel.

I interpret that the “*” star key sends a “0” command to allow easier access to the configuration menu.

Maybe, this is the cause of the 210's delayed launch.

That's a different star and a different context. The "star" key is used to put DSP speakers into config mode ... I can't see how that's relevant to Sooloos or Roon.

Hi Rick,

Dare I ask how much they are here in the UK?

Do you know if it has any learning capability, I'm assuming not but would be good to know for sure?

Carl

£125 and they aren't learning.

The MSR2 now replaces the MSR+, which has been discontinued.

What a downgrade...

MSR+ prices set to rise?

Re: INFO: New MSR2 Remote - 2019-01-18 16:36

I’ll keep my MSR+s as they just work for me and the learned function has been very handy for basic TV and DAB stations.

Re: INFO: New MSR2 Remote - 2019-01-19 00:18

Do these have the option to have custom keys? If not, what are the options these days for a better remote? E.g. one with ‘soft’ key labels, or I suppose just a touchscreen so you can have customisable source labels, etc.?

Re: INFO: New MSR2 Remote - 2019-01-19 08:40

There is nothing in the instructions regarding this, so the assumption is that there are no blank keys that can be customised and swapped in.

Perhaps it could be opened up and something made (3D printing), but a lot of effort; buy a MSR+ before the 2nd hand prices go up!

Less is more; functionality and cost respectively.

Re: INFO: New MSR2 Remote - 2019-02-02 11:08

Just seen this. I'm disgusted. Especially at the rip off price.

I've always hated remote controls and rarely used them, then when I got the MSR+ with my G61R I found the form factor so easy to use. Most if not all remotes these days are wand types which are awful to use IMO. Try using them without picking them up. Impossible.

Ali.
