Hi

Been away for a few weeks and returned to play some material from my Roon setup on laptop via 210 to Meridian 7200SE.

Now the MQA from TIDAL seems to have diminished. Now played Cat Steven’s Tea for Tillerman which used to be 192 MQA now moved to 192 FLAC.

When I play I get this on signal path …

SOURCE
TIDAL FLAC 192khz 24bit 2CH

BIT DEPTH CONVERSION
24 bit to 64bit float

Sample rate conversion
192 kHz to 96 kHz

Bit depth conversion
64 bit float to 24bit

Meridian 210
Roon advanced audio transport

Output
Digital output.

Displays on 7200SE AS 96 MHR

Are others seeing this ?

Have we lost something or is this a gain. Sure previously this was 192 MQA on 7200SE

Hi Kevin,

IMHO We as Meridian/Roon/Tidal streaming owners have lost.
The majority of Hi Fi manufacturers and critics out there were threatened by the magic of Bob Stuart.
The debate was based on "wether" (a castrated ram) MQA is Lossless or Not! This was totally irrelevant.
There was never a consideration for the audible benefit of Meridian MQA/Roon/Tidal and Meridian Kit.
The result is a huge loss, MQA took off but never achieved Earth Orbit.

MQA is retrospectively, just a valiant and valued advance enjoyed for a short time by a minority, that has been consigned to the audio trash can, unless the new owners can resurrect rebrand and revive MQA.

Anyway can’t this be fixed by a teams call of these 4 :

Donald John Buchanan - Meridian , allows high end DSP speakers to resolve 192/24 audio again

Enno Vandermeer ROON LABS- avoid a number of leavers as ROON recurring customers who go chasing a different solution

Richard Sanders Chief Executive Officer, Tidal Inc , avoid a number of leavers as TIDAL recurring customers go chasing a different provider.

Andy Dowell, Head of Licensing for MQA not sure where the sales will be without a deal with Tidal and above.

Aim. Get both the MQA and FLAC versions available to prove the benefit or not of MQA 192 /24

Suspect they will lack the courage to sort though, but can hope.

Would show real cooperation.

Thanks Kevin - this would be unfortunate. I will come back here when BluOS no longer works, but I am grateful in the meantime to be able to access MQA from Tidal.
