As for video quality, a recently produced DVD, originally recorded in HD, can, upscaled with the iScan, come very close to Blu Ray but the compressed surround sound audio via DD or DTS (slightly better) cannot compare. And of course not many DVDs do reach this video standard so I'm a reformed Blu Ray Luddite. Interesting, my experience is somewhat the opposite. Although I do not yet have the HD621, Bluray audio via my modified 3xSPDIF connection to 861 is better than lossy DD/DTS from DVD, but not dramatically so. On the video side, I do find that upconverted DVD can be surprisingly good, but on my system it is quite significantly inferior to Bluray. Given that we have the same projector, curious about your screen size?

Okay I have put up with this problem for several months and this afternoon I decided to upgrade the HD621 firmware to the latest version. There were two files and I uploaded both. Surprise, surprise !! My switching problems instantly disappeared. If anyone else is putting up with the same problem then I highly recommend to upgrade the HD621 firmware. I am now having the HDMI source switch instantly at ONE touch of the remote button. Yes I wished I tried this ages ago. Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve, Golden rule with M-kit update to the latest firmware Trust you are well, my 800D is still performing well after you helped me out last year with a firmware update; thanks again for that. Regards, Carl.

I will cross post this in on both the Lumagen and Meridian forums…
I am using a Panasonic DMP-BD60 (firmware 1.9) --> Meridian HD621 (firmware 1.04) --> Lumagen RadianceXE (firmware 080109) --> Marantz VP-11S2.
As Meridian / Lumagen are working on getting the kinks out of this combination I though that it would be useful to advise that whenever - and I do mean always - I power on my Panasonic the front display reads U73 which means that there is an HDMI hand shaking issue and the unit is a brick (i.e. no splash screen, no display, etc.) no matter what I do...that is, even disconnecting / reconnecting the power from every device in the chain does not solve the problem…the only *sometimes* solution is disconnecting / reconnecting the HDMI connection out of the Panasonic and into the Meridian while everything is powered up although this is a less than perfect solution as it more often than not results in the need to disconnect / reconnect the power from every device in the chain as it causes hand shaking problems with every other HDMI device (i.e. Lumagen does not receive a signal)...and yes, the problem does NOT occur when the Panasonic is connected directly to the Lumagen...
As a result it would be great to get this fixed / solved as it makes watching a movie a “hit and miss experience” not to mention a very frustrating experience.
Thanks so much…
PS. Would this be something that the Lumagen`s HOTPLUG command may resolve (assuming that the command is passed through the Meridian which I do not know to be / not to be the case) as I viewed its related HELP information and could not discern whether this would / would not help…

Joel,
I hope you find a solution. It does not, however, seem to be a Lumagen problem as you describe it. It seems more like a problem with the HDMI implementation between the Panny and the HD621. Have you tried to get a message to Meridian? I imagine Panasonic will be less likely to be responsive.
What happens if you only take the Lumagen out of the path?

No, I have not taken the Lumagen out of the path as it is too hard to do given how my rack is wired...I am going to get a second player and temporarily hook it up to determine the offending unit but it is definitely one of them.. Thanks.

OK. Here's a new one. I have both an Oppo BDP-83 and a Sony SCD-XA5400ES connected to the HD621 and 861. There are no video sources or outputs involved.
When I play the Oppo (MCH PCM from SACD) via the HD621, I see the expected MHR 88 on the 861 display. However, when I select the Sony (again with MCH PCM from SACD), I see 44 on the 861. This is strange because, regardless of whether the Sony is outputting 44.1 or 88.2, the "Output Rate 2x (96k)" mode should assure an output of 88.2 to the 861.
Now it gets weirder. If I switch back to the Oppo from the Sony, the displayed output stays at 44 unless/until I re-boot the Oppo. It does not matter if I switch back to the Oppo directly or via a non-HD621 source. So, it seems that the Sony is, somehow, kicking the HD621 out of "Output Rate 2x (96k)" mode. Now, here's yet another flake. When I put a Redbook CD in the Sony, the 861 displays 88k, indicating that the HD621 is upsampling as it should. However, if I switch to the Oppo, what I get depends on what the Oppo is playing. If it has a CD, the 861 stays at 88 as it should. However, if the Oppo is playing a MCH SACD, the display goes to 44!
I have someone at Meridian USA looking into this but I would appreciate any bright ideas.
Kal

I noticed a similar problem with my G68J: changes on a digital input (for instance changing soundtrack on a BD) can throw the G68J from its High Output mode. The yellow lights on the DSP speakers turn off in that case. Switching off and on the G68J solves the problem. So this problem does not seem to be restricted to the HD621.

As this is such a long thread, this point may have been addressed before.
I put on my system today and had no HDMI video output from the HD621 however, I had audio into the G68 via HD621 and 3 x SPDIF from any source. I checked the output cable and this was OK. I then power cycled the HD621 from the back panel switch and all was restored to normal.
Has anyone else had anything lke this?

Yes.
Exactly the same problem last night and the same solution.
I think I read earlier in the thread others saying that this happened something like once a month. This was just the second time it had happened to me.
