guys, I have been busy getting orders out over the past 10 days or so, we have shipped over 25 units in that time

we have exactly 18 orders left to go, and I look to have them completed within the next week

the Australian DTV powerbuy is having the last 3 units sent this friday, Colin's unit is going out friday as well(long story on that)

the 6 or 7 units with the ultimate analog audio mods are the last to go out, lots of work on those

sorry for the delays, getting things done as fast as possible, people are flooding our emails with so much stuff that is it literally getting difficult to get answers back to them and I have to weight time between answering emails vs getting things completed and out, I am sure most would prefer the later

thanks

Not since his last post here. I actually haven't heard back personally from Gary since July 20. There may be extenuating circumstances. I have waited over three months for a working unit from Gary, although he did deliver the initial unit just over a month from the time the order was placed (HDMI video was broken and the unit had to go back to Oppo).

very good news on your Oppo(just bad firmware update issues), will be back to you very soon

sorry for the wait

Gary, have you gotten the Spears&Munsil glasses and the AIX Blu-ray Test disk/sampler from Oppo so they can be supplied with the players you send abroad?

1st impressions.

As written in some earlier reviews, I hear a slight edge on CD. Soloist images seem slightly veiled. Soundstage is a little tight. In my experience, M`s 800 is superior on CDs as you might expect. I`m surprised, however, having earlier A/Bd kswanson`s SFogg modded Oppo 980 with the 800; that Oppo was a near equal contender.

My Oppo plays DVD Audio and SACD (so far) without the problems noted by others. SACD and Bluray sound pretty spectacular (but without anything to compare with) and that`s one way I`ll be using it. It will also get playing time in casual/background listening; Oppo`s quick response to commands (like open/close/play!) is way better than Meridian`s.

Still need to let it settle in, get used to it and maybe adjust my choice of MRC filters.

More later if anything new turns up, and I really hope to read about others` experience as there must be many of these out in the Universe by now. Jimk

Fully agree with your observations on CD. Just out of curiosity, have you tried multi-channel SACDs yet? My Oppo plays 2-ch SACD flawlessly, but starts to pop and click on mch.

Yes, Simon, but I don't have much of a library yet. All three are hybrids but played in multichannel music mode using the Cinema and THX DSPs.

I have the fully modded Oppo, pretty sure you do, too.

I'm not using HDMI out and isn't that where the pops and clicks originate? I haven't changed the firmware...running main version 22-0430.

I'd like to read about anyone having updated firmware...I'm a bit gun shy about this although Gary (and recently,Shawn) has said firmware should be independent of the mod. JimK

I had the digital trnasport mods done plus the 4xSPDIF output - although I had Gary retain the 7.1 analog output capability. I did not bother with region free.

On mch SACD, I've not tried HDMI as I have not bought the HD621, but I hear pops and clicks via 4xSPDIF and 7.1 analog into my 861. It's not terrible, but enough to be annoying and, at least for now, for me to go back to my previous solution for SACD. Bluray is outstanding though.

I've done firmware upgrades without incident.

My Oppo is waiting at Customs, I have to get in contact with Gary since Swedish Customs don't tell you what the seller has written and asks if that's correct, but rather asks what the seller has written on the Customs declaration. Which I have no idea of...

I got the needed answers quickly from Gary, but Swedish Customs now seems to be in no hurry...

You could look for german and austria on the internet and i shurly mean it should be the same for the EU that there are "custom declaration numbers" which describe the items to import and how much custom will be charged.
Standard is that you have to pay some % custom.
It starts for example 13U$ converted to Euros say
100 item
10 shipment
110 summary -thats the base for
11 custom(10%)
121 summary-thats the base for tax
42 tax 20%
163 Total

So you pay custom on the item and the shipment (!)
and you pay taxes from item, shipment and custom...
So its very important that the bill what is in the box and your payment have the same numbers.
And you have to look if the item have the correct custom declaration number.
And you dont have to pay the local US taxes, means the item have to be cheapier as in US(depends in which state the item will be sold-much differences in taxes> ask the US boys)
And when you import the item, you have to pay the local tax(also different in europe).

Yes, I know all that. You forgot the Payment Fee... wink The fee for the pleasure of getting to pay customs on item value and shipment, and tax on all that... The high cost in Sweden is always the VAT, customs are pretty low.

The problem was that I needed to know what Gary had written in his declaration, but I got that from him in a few hours. Usually then, when Customs have gotten all information, nothing happens. And then nothing again. Then a carrier suddenly shows up at home and demands to have the (earlier unspecified amount for) customs and tax. And as a principle they NEVER give any change.
