Hi Folks,
Anyone know if the 512 remote extender is still available? Can't see them on the Meridian Price List. If so, anyone any idea of (UK) price?
Rgds Geo.

Hello
I was just speaking to the Meridian Service department. I'm told they don't have any 512 spares to sell now. It's no longer available.
However, the G12 will also do the job. It just needs to have the connector changed to the old 5 pin DIN to work with an older 500 series product.
If you can't get hold of the 512, let me know, I have an used G12.
Hope that helps
Kind regards
Richard Taylor

Ah, but the G12 can be made to work grasshoppers...
A G!2 can be adapted to newer 5XX and all 8XX series use but it needs a DIY adapter which incorporates both the requisite DIN plug and an offboard power source with the appropriate voltage. The G12's power supply voltage requirements were much different than those of the 512. After considerable research, I built just such an adapter a few years ago using an appropriate wall wart to remotely control the roof-top deck 2nd zone of one of our M systems. I'd intended to glue the eye into a hole drilled through the brick outside wall.
The G12 plus DIY adapter worked great on our DTS 7.1 565 and all the rest of our newer 5xx and 8xx gear but wouldn't work consistently on the venerable 541 used to generate a Trifield signal for the deck amplification/speakers. I finally ended up with a 212 IR extension (functionally identical to the 512) which did work with the 541 and I simply used double side tape to stick onto the inside corner of a window facing the deck.
So- If you can't easily source the now discontinued 512 and/or the tiny size of the G12 appeals to ya, I've got a new unit with the required adapters I'd part with for a fair price and the G12 itself remains completely unmolested. both the stock plugs of the G12 and the wall wart power supply plug into appropriate receptacles on the nifty adapter harness I built.

Much appreciate the input, folks.... Think I've just dropped the idea of a pair of DSP33's in a second room running off my main system! Rgds George.

George, you don't list what your main kit is but if your main system has any G components, then the G12 extender should be what you are after. You just feed it back to your a G series component rather than plugging into the DSP33's.

By comparison, Ian, I'm a simpleton (in terms of Meridian kit at least) !! An 808i into DSP5500's plus vinyl and a couple of other (non-Meridan) feeds. So no other Meridian kit.... A real 2-channel dinosaur.
George.

Does your 808i have din comms (straight plug) or bnc (twist to lock) ? If it has bnc, then it should work with g12.
The current 808i only seems to have din and speakerlink.
