For those with SONOS, Squeezebox or other digital music servers AND a RadianceXD/XE I am curious as to:
1. Have you done a comparison of the audio quality between a) connecting the music server directly to the G61/861 and b) connecting the music server to the HD621 and then to the G61/861.
2. If the answer to 1. is yes then what have you concluded about the comparison in music quality (i.e. are the apodizing filters and upsampling) noticeably better / worthwhile.
The reason that I ask is that I am having my HD621 installed on Friday and need to know how to have things wired and before suggesting doing the A/B comparison myslef part of the diffculty / problem with this is that my Crestron control panel is being re-programmed at the same time which allows very little (read nay) time for a proper comparison...
TIA. Joel, I have my music server connected to the XD and then to the HD621. I have not done a rigorous a/b test but I think that the MS sound is more open and clear through the HD621 than it was directly into the G68. Still, I wouldn't want to make a really strong statement about it because, like I said, my reaction is very impressionistic. For the most part it's a pretty subtle difference. In any case, I'm leaving the set up with the MS going through the HD621.

How would you connect a Sonos/SB3 to a 621 ? I don't recall any inputs other than HDMI. Nick, the Radiance can overlay any audio input (analogue stereo, coax, toslink) on one or both of its HDMI outputs.

Jack_d, appreciate the response...will haveto ponder which route to take but will probably just leave it connected directly to the 861 but, that said, should anyone want to add their thoughts please do so...
TIA.

I have a very strange thing happen to me after introducing a HD621 in my system.
Blu-ray --> HDMI -->HD621 --> 861 MD1
Problem: NO Center or Sub - Front speakers and Surround is ok.
800D (DVD) --> 861 MD2
Problem: NO Front speakers - Center/Sub and Surround is ok.
Is my IE42 having address problems? Center missing from MD1 is present on MD2 and Front missing from MD2 is present on MD1.
It's enough to make my head spin. I've tried all the usual stuff like hard reset of both 800D and 861 and typing both units.
Do I have to replace my IE42?
It's late and I'm going to bed, but I'll try on more thing tomorrow and that is using HD621 to MD2 over HDMI for both Blu-ray and DVD and not using MD1 at all.
Any ideas?

Hi Jack,
Thanks for the feedback. I did confirm with Dish both by email and telephone that HDMI passes DD5.1 and have tried the various Audio menus in the Dish.
To keep in perspective with my problem, 6-channel PCM from my PS3 works perfectly. DD does not work properly with either my PS3 or Sat.
If you (or anyone else) has a chance, could you please play a DD disc through your BD player and see if your processors says it is receiving AC3?
Thanks, George OK. Was watching a TIVO recording from a HD tv program. The "previously" section was in DD 2.0 and AC3 2.0 showed up on the stream display. Then when the actual episode started it switched to AC3 3/2.1. When I tried a SD DVD through my BR player, the stream display shows MHR96K and the G68 applies "cinema" DSP. The thing is I have the BR player set to output LPCM. So not really a good check for DD. In my limited understanding at least it seems the TIVO is sending out AC3 and the HD621 recognizes it and passes it through to the processor.

I have a Dish 612 receiver and a HD621. I connected the 612 via HDMI to the HD621 with the video out from the HD621 going to my Lumagen Radiance. I had no problem getting DD 5.1 pass thru to my Meridian 861. Sounded super. The 612 is set to output Dolby Digital/PCM. BTW, maybe it was just the movie I was watching, but the picture from my 612 processed through the HD621 looked better than I have seen it look ever. CLEAN. Anyone else?

Well I think running HD621 to Radiance definitely makes the picture look different. It's not worse but I'm not sure I'm willing to say it's better. Someone else had the same reaction you did. I think it was in one of the other HD621 threads.

I don't know of any player that lets you send DD as bitstream but HD Audio as LPCM.

I went into the PS3 audio menu and deselected everything but DD, DTS and PCM 2-channel 44.1/48 (which cannot be deselected). I then put in a BD and specifically selected DD 5.1. I hit Display on the PS3 and it showed DD 5.1. My 568.2mm via the HD621 displayed PCM Mov2.
It does not seem that the PS3 can output DD/DTS over HDMI no matter what the audio setting. Is that possible? That would not be a good thing since some BDs only have DD. Previously I used the Toslink out on the PS3 and that worked fine for DD/DTS.
I still cannot pass DD through HDMI with my Dish 722 DVR and so I use Toslink. That might not be so bad since I read that since Toslink has its own audio clock it might be better than DD over HDMI which has to use the video clock.

Yes it can, you have to shut PCM over HDMI off completely.
You can't set the PS3 to do DD bitstream and HD formats with one set of configuartions settings. If HD621 can pass it you can change settings.
Oh yeah, I have run into situations when fiddling with those settings that I had to shut the PS3 down to get new settings to take. I forget what the exact situation was but it was in that area.
Even if HD621 does pass bitstream it is not worth the headache of switching back and forth on the PS3. The PS3 seems to go a good job decoding both. Just leave it and enjoy.
You lose apodizing/upsampling of HD621 if you pass bitstream anyway. Most go to great lengths to decode externally so that can do stuff like that.

/Geir It may be something you already tried but did you retype the 861 after uploading your new Mconfig file and did you "clear" the 861 establishing it as contoller? Worth a try.
