I am very interested but don't know what 'version' is right for me.
Currently I have a Lexicon RT-10 universal player for DVD, CD, SACD, DVD-A connected to a Meridian G68XXV via one coaxial S\PDIF and eight RCA analog audio connections. Video out put is by component cable to a Fujitsu LPF-QSD1 outboard scaler. I had selected the RT-10 because of its superb audio performance with all formats.
In addition I use a PS3 for DVD, Bluray and wireless music streaming from my PC. The PS3 is connected by Toslink with the G68XXV for 5.1 audio and by HDMI with the scaler for video.
I have ordered a Meridian HD621 to be able to run "lossless" TrueHD and DTS-HD 7.1 channel audio formats into the Meridian G68 processor.
How does the BDP-83HCT fit in here? It probably replaces the RT-10 and the PS3 and reduced the cables to a single HDMI cable for all signals streams to the Meridian HD621. There the audio and video signals are separated and forwarded by BNC Meridian Comms to the G68 (audio only) and by HDMI to the scaler (video only).
How do the 4x S\PDIF digital outputs of the "Meridian Ed." fit in? Can they be used to "bypass" or even make the HD621 unnecessary?
G68XXV, Oppo BDP83, Forsell CD, Audio Syn DAX-2, LG LSS-3200A TV box, Krell amps, Apogee Diva(M) & Duetta(R), Dunlavy HRCC(C), Audio Physics Virgo(S), Velodyne DD-15 sub, Transparent cables, Fujitsu LPF-D711 projec, Draper 10'screen.

there is PLENTY interest here for this, 10 units will easily be met, most likely 20+, so expect a decent discount here, I will have details soon(following completion of shipping the DVDO Edge scalers, which is mid this week), thanks for all the hands thrown up so I can get a good estimate
Roger, you won't need the SPDIF mod with the HD621 you have, if you want the best quality digital signals via HDMI then the digital transport ed. will do the trick nicely, it has a updated power supply with toroidal isolation transformer, a updated high-end clock with dedicated power supply itself and disabling of the analog audio outputs, all this adds up to the highest quality possible digital signals via HDMI(video and PCM audio) and the 4x SPDIF mod for those that want it
thanks

What is the position regarding warranty on your modified units? Obviously Oppo won't entertain any claims on faults found in modified units so is it ourselves the purchasers who stand the risks or do you offer some form of warranty? No matter how good the quality of units that Oppo produce and Shawn's boards there is always the possibility of a rogue component somewhere within the chain

Rod, yes that is a possibility, however I can say that for 3+ years we have modified 100+ Oppo units, I have not had one single failure been relayed back to me
likewise Oppo is actually very good about stuff like this, I have heard some online members say they got free parts or reduced price parts to install in modified players that had a problem
9 out of 10 times what happens to a player like this is the drive goes bad, again a simple swap in and out
lastly while I don't have any stated warrantys, I will take care of folks 6 months to a year, including installing and repairing for no labor costs
thanks Rod

Gary Thanks for the reply and your kind offer of free labour costs should the need arise. Were you to be based in the UK I would have no hesitation in ordering an Oppo but being US based does give me some concern. We are talking of a modified region free player which would cost in the region of 1000 taking delivery into account and at that level I could purchase a very good Bluray player in the UK with a discount, albeit without digital audio output. The big question is 'how good would the analogue multi-channel output be vs digital'? Buying in the UK gives warranty and local support. What I find most disappointing in the whole area of digital mods. is the number of people within the UK who in other threads have indicated the possibility of cheaper alternatives all of which seem to have died of death!!
So...To take the chance or not to take the chance?...that is the question
Hmmmm...

I've imported an Oppo 970, Oppo 980 and Tosh XA1, and bought a US PS3 here in the UK, none of which were *that* expensive. I could live with it if something went wrong with one of them, but I would feel uncomfortable at 1000 even if the risk is small. How much is the BD-83 new (in $US)?

It's stated it's gonna be between $499 and $599, it's not released yet (will possibly be in two weeks time, and probably closer to $599 than $499).
HD621, G98DH, G68ADV, Bc Acoustiqe ACT A3, 5200C DSP33, NuForce Reference 9 monoblocks, 2x SB3's, Velodyne DD-15 & DD-12 Subwoofers and a Meridian sub.

I was basing my cost on the Meridian modded with upgraded power supplies etc. (according to Gary's site is $1399). Assuming $75 for posting gives an approx. cost of 1000
