The Edge stills takes the Kuro to a new level, its sharpening algorithms are far better than the Kuros, and the way it handles 480i that has been deinterlaced by cheap set top boxes etc. by interlacing them and then doing it again properly makes a hell of a difference.

The KURO is good out the box fro colour and greyscale, however it's processing is still way behind what the EDGE will offer.

Plus the EDGE is only a little more than a decent HDMI switcher.

Virus, that I would not agree with totally

ABT has what is considered by many the best deinterlacing in the world, Lumagen is usually considered the best scaling

you won't find any better 1080i deinterlacing than ABT has in my opinion, and there prep feature is awesome

I'm not a fan of Lumagen, well not with PAL material in the past. I have not played with a Radience, but when I thried the HDQ and the Crystalio I have to say teh Lumagen was quite a way behind the Crystalio.
I thought the VP50 looked so much nicer with Sky as well, and at half the price.

I'm sure things have moved on with the Radiance, but don't think I would pay 3500 for a processor any more, with things like the EDGE at 600 I just don't think it's worth it.

Times have indeed moved on, both in terms of Lumagen improvement with PAL and prices of VPs. Worth stating that the Radiance has the only decent CMS around, though whether that is worth 3500... On the other hand, I always considered my HD1 projector as a "monitor" and the Radiance the processing electronics.

BTW, if and when I can get a Radiance on my bench I would be glad to check it out and develop the mod for it, with the 2nd HDMI output like the Edge it would probably work just fine and dandy

don't want to leave anyone out! grin

thats for another thread though

What about offering a clux Gary??

I use the HD421, it swicthes seemlessly with the Meridian processor, so would be nice to just have the CLUX between that and the screen with the MHR link going bacl to the processor.

I would actually prefer that over anything that adds anothe remote to the system. smile

That's why specifically said 720p, 1080i/p. I rarely ever watch 480i/p.

I don't doubt better processing exists over what's built into kuro but at 50" with 720p/1080i/p would you really see that much difference at 10 feet?

Now if we were talking 110/120 inch screens it's a whole different ball game.

I don't see any artifacts, judder or anything.

Ooh, one question that needs to be answered for anyone like me that uses an RS-1 projector (or similar EDID display):

Does the Edge let you edit the EDID that is reported to the source? The RS-1 only reports 2ch PCM capability and so if that is passed onto the source then the source may not output 8ch. This is certainly the case with the Panasonic BD55 player, and I think the Toshiba A35 too. Ideally you need to be able to force 8ch PCM in the EDID to the source from the Edge.

I know Shawn solved this with a DVI Detective between the RS-1 and CLUX, but that's yet another device hanging around.

Thanks!

But it is about as sharp a marsh mallow roasting on fire!! grin

Seriously the Kuro processing isn't all that, yeah the deinterlacing is OK, the scaling is OK, but there is more to a video processor than that.

I have the 500M in front of me, which is like a combo of your 500M and Elite.
Compared to the new Panasonic PF11 the Pioneer is lacking in many areas, I know the forums will have you believe it is the new Holy Grail, but it isn't really. It's good, very good, but I would take a Panasonic PF11 with an Edge over the Kuro everytime.

I have both side by side at the moment and even my wife, who doesn't pay attention to my toys, thinks the Pioneer is 'blurry' in comparison.

I am going to try and borrow an EDGE to see if it helps the Kuro, I will report back if it is of interest?

no need for that, the audio dedicated output has a dummy video signal that is separate from the main video HDMI output, this keeps the PCM audio flowing at all times no matter what you are connected to or if nothing is connected at all, it doesn't care what the EDID info is, all this means perfect flow of audio not matter what you are connected to including nothing at all

the DVDO scalers do not pass the connected HDMI info along from the output to input anyway, so nothing stops you from inputting exactly what you want

most people will want connect to the main HDMI video output and nothing to the dedicated audio output

thanks
