THis is an interesting item on their website:

"23rd November 2008 - XLD uses AccurateRip (CD Ripper for Apple)"

Does iTunes use AccurateRip?

Sounds like XLD is the EAC of the apple world and has hopped onto the AccurateRip band wagon.

So Mac yes, iTunes no.

There is an interesting thread on accuraterip (AR2) by some developers here.

http://forum.dBpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=16463

It would be so nice if you could back check your entire library after the fact.

dBpoweramp is the ripper of choice, for sure, and AccurateRip is one big reason why. Also, their new PerfectMeta metadata solution, though far from "perfect", is the best of any mainstream ripping tool.

Hi Guys

I cannot open XLD from the above download. When the file is downloaded and unzipped it produces an application entitled XLD-20070917 but when I try to open it it gives a few lines of coding ending 'logout'

Any suggestions as to how I get around this? I do note that there are some adverse comments in red on the download site by the GUI section

I'm no expert on the Mac but I've seen similar types of issues on Windows.

Some open source projects don't use mainstream installers or compressors. Sometimes they use open source for that and even though sometimes it's more adavanced and feature rich but not always compatible with the stock unpackers/installers.

So you may have to hunt down a newer "unpacker/installer". I don't even know which is which smile

I think that's what the red note is hinting at the the standard stuffit does not always work. Do some googling and I think you'll sort it out.

For example this thread. http://www.macupdate.com/reviews.php?id=23378

It's a pain in the butt on windows too. Like when developers use tar ball or rar, for a windows app. Grrr.

This is the world of non shrink wrapped programs. But it does appear well maintained app and much discussed in forums.

Please post your impressions of XLD once you get it up.

You'll get it up.

I'm sure someone else will chime in here if you can't.

I was able to download this file, xld-gui-20080914.tbz, and then double clicked on that to produce a folder that has XLD.app inside. Application launches fine. I'm at work so I can't try it out - no CDs to rip. I'll see if I can get to work at home this evening.

Ok...managed to unzip using 'Zipeg' but there were a couple of issues.
1. The file asked if I wanted to update to a newer version to which I agreed and the update went all the way to the end when it fell over (3 times actually) so I gave up on the update.
2. There was no option to 'measure drive capability' perhaps this was a feature of the update?

Apart from the above all went well BUT ...how slow! It took 30 mins. to rip a 19 track album none of which were particularly long tunes. I recall that EAC which I used prior to my changing to MAC was much faster. So if you have a hundred albums to rip...best take some holidays!
