With the 861 appartently having the possiblity to handle 16 channels internally, I don't understand why people are even slighty excited over an external solution.

Because HDMI currently only has 8 (barely).

What I am aiming at is that with the external solution MHR is used (currently limited to 6 channels) while internally 16 are available.

Interesting.

AC11 - is mixing legacy and RJ45 totally without limitation - it crossed my mind that master and/or fronts may be limited to only RJ45 speakers.

810 scaler - No 480/576p input so you can't connect G9x up to it without scaling twice?
- Firmware updates via USB memory stick are an option
- Ethernet input and built in web server for configuration

Oh dear; do I buy a second-hand G68 and the HDMI box or do I wait and buy a G6x proper solution to replace my (excellent) 562V/565 combination? I plan to buy a PS3 (UK version) for Blu and stay with my 596 for DVD/CD. Or do I go for the new Oppo?

Buy for now it is said, but...

For those with mixed systems, one could easily connect a 511 comms patch box to the "Slave Comms" socket, but do you think there should have been SPDIF outputs (pass-through) as well. This would have made wiring a lot neater with all speaker connections being made from this box.

If you can wait for the Oppo, getting a 568.2MM and a Shawn Fogg 3x SPDIF modification might also be an option.

What do you mean by a "G6x proper solution"?

I think he means a G6x with built-in HDMI input so that he does not need the new (awaited) extra box.

I have been away and missed most of the excitement and emotional outpouring.

Thanks to John Kotches for all his hard work and I'm sure we look forward to some clear statements of fact and policy from Meridian.

From the buried press releases are we now to assume that Meridian are saying that SpeakerLink is better than coax rather than just tidier?

If Meridian are taking their time to sort out the audio-visual muddle that is HDMI (terrible jitter) then so be it. We want something that sounds outstanding.

If there are additional challenges involved in providing a digital out for their speakers then so be it. DSP speakers are the heart and soul of Meridian: everyone should have some. That is why the F80 sounds so good because it also has DSP speakers.

The real problem, as always, is that Meridian is not telling the world what they are doing and why; and giving enough information about their new products. They do not need to compromise their future intentions.

Which, according to Meridian (reported indirectly) is not going to happen. What *might* happen will be a rolling change to the 861 and G6x specifications to add an 8-channel MHR input using either 4x SPDIF or SpeakerLink.

I think we are speculating again.
