I sent my 861 in because I was having a strange problem. After the unit being on for a few hours - I would lose audio and the display would go out.

It would stop responding and only start working again once I power cycled the unit at the switch on the back.

I got an RMA and sent the unit in... it was in Atl for about 5 weeks. I got it back yesterday and it's doing the same thing!!!

I have to say that getting any info about the status of my repair was nearly impossible too.

I would send emails and they were ignored. I would call and ask for a specific person to call me back... and I never would hear back.

So far I am anything but impressed with how Meridian is taking care of me as a customer.

Sorry to rant... but I am just wondering if this is typical for Meridian. If so - I may have to look into a Halcro!!!

Very pissed off,
Jim

Doesn't seem to be typical, though I have been very underwhelmed by their support when I have some questions.

Service quality may vary from country to country, which one are you in?

yep thats the experience I am having with Meridian UK. Emails ignored (although they admitted to me over the phone that had a fault with the email system), so I sent a subsequent email: ignored.

Not very impressed at all.

That "corrupted email server" is as old as "the check is in the mail" - at work we have a sub-contractor that has that on his Top 5-list for excuses...

I understand that service centers are busy - and that sometimes they can't get to an email or phone call. I am not a high maintence person, so ignored emails didn't really upset me that much.

However - when you send a unit in for 5 weeks and get it back and it does the exact same thing that it did when you sent it in - I tend to get upset.

All I ask is that the damn thing work!

I have to say Meridian Uk have always been fantastic with my problems,
My Mate darren just had his 561 and 596 turned round really quick. In the last 3 weeeks
The 596 got a new transport PSU and overhaul all for 1 hours labour.
The 561 was sorted FOC.
I dont think he even paid return carriage.

They are only a small company and we saw the repair shop on our Mothership visit.

It's a small room which looked busy.

I hope things Improve for you.

Cheers, Chris smile

I have always had great service from the folks in Atlanta, but I know not everyone's experience has been the same. It also appears from the posts that the turn around time from Atlanta has not been as consistently quick as from Huntington. I am only aware of one tech - Jason - in Atlanta. I suspect if the Mothership's repair facilities are limited, Jason's area must be quite small indeed. I think that it is always best - if you can - to call ahead and speak with Jason and send the component needing attention directly to him rather than going through a dealer. I think you will receive more personal attention and eliminate the inevitable delays of using the dealer as middleman.

This was sent directly to Jason as I don't have a Meridian dealer locally.

It's on it's way back to Atl... I'm sure it will be repaired this time - it's just frustrating.

Hi Jim,

My impressions of Meridian service is a mixed bag:
My experience with Meridian's distributor in Canada was poor (they tried to charge 800$ + shipping for replacing a $20 DVD-Rom drive in my 596).
Needless to say I did it myself and it worked fantastic ever since.

Meridian USA were not cooperative either when I needed to fix my G57. They insisted I will send it to the Canadian distributor who could not repair the machine "due to its complexity". Whatever.

In the end I sent it to Meridian in the UK at a high cost but it was worth it since Meridian in the UK not only repaired it quickly and updated me in every step of the repair but also charged zero dollars on the repair which I find to be admirable and rare.

To summarize, life is not easy for Meridian owners living on the other side of the pond but the company itself seems extremely service oriented and I have nothing but accolades to Dave Hall, Andy and Warren who took care of me and spent the time to follow-up and make sure everything works flawlessly.

I hope your problem will be fixed soon,

Cheers,

Doron
