Actually, YCbCr refers to component colorspace in the digital domain. YPbPr refers to analogue component. It's a subtlety that many manufacturers get wrong when labling their products.

All explained here (Background Section):

A battery is probably the last thing one would want to buy from Sony laugh

I didnt know which thread to put this in, but I think it is relevant to the on-going, tragic format war.

You spin me right round, baby, right round… smile

Sony never offered free movie vouchers with the PS3. Just $10 rebate tokens on six or seven pre-selected titles so people still had to go and pay in full for purchases....

He's being naughty and adding the Xbox drives to his 200,000 figure too (as confirmed by the HD DVD group at CES. It also includes laptop sales). Subtract that and NPD sales figures recently showed - surprisingly - that standalone player sales were roughly equal for both formats despite the price difference. Since it is probably safe to assume that at least as many PS3 owners as 360 HD drive owners use their console for movie playback, everything is just cancelling each other out. It`s all very boring. I wish one of them WOULD take a significant lead sooner rather than later so we can put this mess behind us and enjoy HD movies.

Erm, some of us are already enjoying them thank you very much ;-) It's only the fence huggers that are missing out. But I'm being facetious as usual so ignore me.

Ok, smart arse... enjoy all the HD movies...... on the same (non combo) machine. smile I'm too low on funds to humour all these moronic companies who couldn't find a single solution before opting to unleash two.

Ken,
I know you were interested in the LG (I think its LG) "one player to rule them all" that spins BRD and HDDVD. There a review in this months sound and vision. The short version is the player is an excellent BRD player and image quality on HDDVD is excellent but the player ignores HDDVDs menus and extras and gives you a generic chapter list for discs. I guess this has to do with it not fully supporting whatever XML or other language the HDDVD menus are written in. Anyway the review goes on to say that the HDMI out supports 1080P but at 24 or 30fps not 60. Many displays wont do 1080p/24. And I think there were some audio issues as well.

So it seems the player has some flaws- but if you dont care about HDDVD menus and dolbytrue HD audio then I think this is the ticket. My take: a decent 1.0 effort by LG. They will surely make it better and Id wait for v 2.0.

Btw- totally shifting gears here- Mark, you are so right about 24fps playback. I am playing back at 48fps. And WOW. The movement is so much more fluid. I cant go back.

Btwx2- I watched Empire Strikes out- I mean Back wink last night- yes lowly SD from the Kscape. Goes into my processor via component even because the Kscape HDMI has issues when its @480i out. You know what- it was a lot more watchable than I feared. What I have discovered is if I want to watch something SD, I must not watch something HD first. If I do, its over. Also having a good processor helps. The noise reduction features in the CII are very good IMHO.

best regards,
Jerry

I read in Widescreen review that Bob Stuart told Garry that Meridian is working to make a HD-DVD player.
