Wondering if I can get some help from this board! I recently acquired a set of DSP5500 MKI, but already upgraded to 24/95. The speakers work fine, however, I have not been able to do any room correction. My setup uses the Meridian 565 surround processor, therefore, I use "Type 6". The instructions in the manual are as follows: 1. Turn off power supply from the back of the "master" speaker. Waite a few seconds. 2. While holding down the "store" button on the remote, turn on the power again. The display should show "SEt" and then quickly reverts to the standby mode. (THESE TWO STEPS WORKED FINE). 3. Use the left/right arrow keys (or "Function" + left/right )to bring up a setup menu (e.g. tilt, Bass control, room correction, etc.). I DID, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I HAVE DONE THIS A NUMBER OF TIMES TO NO AVAIL. I even disconnected the COMM links, still no luck. Anybody ever had this problem? If so, how did you solve it. I contacted Meridian, but it appeared and 'idiot' answered my email, because the moron simply regurgiated the same instructions from the manual. Thanks in advance.

are you dead certain they were upgraded?
maybe they weren't and the older models don't respond to those command? seems unlikely, but just a thought.
i don't think i've ever owned a non-96/24 DSP speaker, so i don't know how they behaved (though you might see if you can dig up an old manual off the M web site to see what that says in this regard).

I don't think you mean "room correction" rather speaker settings....2 different things.
The system will do nothing in stand-by. Step 2.1 (if there was one) would say "press a source key to bring it out of stand-by, then goto step 3"
Be warned though, the 'idiots' and 'morons' will now be able to send very nasty bugs and glitches into your system via very mysterious means.
I don't rate your chances of getting another mail answered BTW given that said morons read this forum .....but, hey ho.

Doody, older DSP's still did the boundary controls etc. Same process to get to them also.

MrDoody: I have to believe that these speakers were upgraded to 24/96 because, on the back, there are stickers that say so, with the name of the technician/facility that supposedly did the upgrade.
ncpl: I meant "room correction" as in "base control", as well as Axis/tilt adjustment--all of the so-called settings not commonly tinkered with. You may be right, that there should have been a step 2.1 (I will try your suggestion). However, the older manual that came with the speakers and the new manual that I downloaded from Meridian website never mention anything other than what I stated in my initial post. In fact, they both provided the same instruction about entering the Setup mode.
The frustration for me is that, I followed their instructions to the letter, and when all else failed, I contacted them only to get an unintelligent brush off for an answer. If I had missed any step, they should have been nice enough to tell me.
You'd think that for the kind of money they charge, they'd be more helpful, or provide well written, well edited manuals.

Hi
What is the controller status of your master speaker? Is it set to Auto or Not Controller?
I'd suggest the following after disconnecting the comms lead from the 565:
1. Switch off at the rear of the master speaker, and whilst holding the "0" key on the MSR, switch back on. Now use the < and > arrows to get to Auto/Controller/Not Controller. Set it to Auto by using the up or down arrows. Turn back off at the rear.
2. Switch back on again, and the speaker will be in standby with the controller status sorted out. It should now respond without hindrance from the 565 comms line.
3. Switch back off at the rear, and now whilst holding "Store" on the MSR, switch back on. As you noted, it will say "Set" and then go back into standby. Press any source on the MSR and the speaker will behave as normal, only now when you use the < and > arrows to go through bass, tilt, axis, etc, you will also have "Free" appearing in the display. Use the up and down arrows to change between Free/Boundary/Sub1/Sub2/Corner. You can change these settings on the fly as you are listening, so it's possible to assess the effect. When you have chosen your preferred setting from the boundary menu, press "Function+Store", then switch off again at the rear.
4. Switch back on at the rear, use the MSR to come out of standby, and your choices are now set.
5. Plug the comms line from the 565 back into the speaker again, then put everything into standby.
6. Press "clear" on the MSR, and each device will sort itself out...the 565 should say "Con" and the speakers "NCon".
That should sort it all out.
If you are new to Meridian, it's a shame that your initial contact has led to frustration. They have their faults, as do all organsiations, but I can speak from first hand experience when I say that their day to day service back up is second to none. I have found them to be extremely helpful and patient, as have the majority of people on this forum. I'd suggest that it's one of the reasons why they command brand loyalty.
Let us know how you get on with your 5500s.
Regards
George

just to put it in a simple way: After the display shows "Setup" and revert to standby you proceed by pressing a source button, for example CD button on the remote. Now you can use your function keys.

I understand what you meant by room correction...just trying to help you avoid confusion with the 'real' room correction, otherwise known as MRC which is to be found in G68's and 861's. Bass/tilt/boundary do perform a related task albeit hard coded. MRC is a more dynamic/microphone measurement driven affair.
Let us know how you get on.

MrMeridian: I am using the right speaker as the master, and it is also the controller (not auto, and no DSP center speaker). The reason I am using the speaker as the controller as opposed to the 562v.2 or the 565 is that both of these are sitting on a shelf behind the speaker, therefore, the signal path from the MSR to the pre/processor is blocked by the "towering" DSP5500, from my normal sitting position. MrMeridian, you and other posters may have actually pin-pointed the missing step, namely AFTER GETTING "SEt" and standby mode, CHOOSE A SOURCE ""AND THEN"", USE THE ARROW KEYS TO GET "INTO THE SETUP MENU".
I really appreciate the suggestions you and others have made.
I will definitely try this, and if it works, I'd suggest that whoever writes user manuals for Meridian should take a course in SOCIOLOGY as well as Technical Writing.
Jose: Thank you too for that "Succinct" comment. That is the kind of writing I'd expect from Meridian.
On a lighter note. I must say that Meridian products are definitely very good. My setup includes a Meridian 101B which I am using as a Phono preamp, connected to my Gyrodec and Meridian 562v.2. What I get out of this setup is beyond amazing. At first, I thought I'd have to give up the lush sound of analog--read turntable in particular, but with the insertion of the Meridian 101B, analog is not only back, but is ALIVE AND KCIKING.
Now I will go and wrestle with the 5500, based on these suggestions and report later.
Thanks people.

Well, happy to report that, the suggestions posted here have been helpful in solving this problem. As noted by MrMeridian, Jose and other, all I needed to do was: AFTER GETTING "SEt" and standby mode, CHOOSE A SOURCE ""AND THEN"", USE THE ARROW KEYS TO GET "INTO THE SETUP MENU". I actually ended up using the combination of "Function" and left/right arrow keys--with the MSR+ remote control.
Thanks for you help.
