Please ask about the possibility of more open and more regular beta testing.

Hi John,

I would just like to ask for any updates on the wish list below:

SOFTWARE

It would be so useful if you could specify the default DVD-A sampling rate for the unit to use - eg. I would like it to default to the highest resolution stereo option available to save going through all the options.

A repeat mode would be very much appreciated when listening to DVD-A.

A shuffle mode would also be very nice on CD and DVD-A although I imagine this would be awkward as there is no label on the remote for it.

Is balance control a possibility on L&R mains on the G91.

Is it possible to provide a software upgrade to activate upsampling in the “stereo mode of “type 6 of the G91 to avoid having to reset and retype everytime you want to go from multichannel to upsampled stereo?

I concur with the network approach - it would also be nice to control the setup programme wirelessly via laptop or PDA. Not sure how difficult this would be?

HARDWARE

Please, please, please provide a DAB upgrade for the standard G91. I purchased mine when it came out and feel a little punished for investing early especially as a DAB version was never on the cards - or I would have waited. If not, is there a DAB G68 planned or even a stand-a-lone DAB receiver?

Please confirm the position with either an HDMI input card for the G91 / 98 / 68 or what the alternative might be.

Please confirm if there is going to be a new standmount DSP speaker in the range - any ideas on price and release timescale.

I realise I probably won't get a response to most of the Hardware queries, except, hopefully, to the HDMI query, but as a wise man once said - if you don`t ask you don`t get!

Many Thanks John

...or if not custom resolutions than at least the possibility to scale to some more standard resolutions (for instance a PAL resolution DVD to 480p)

Interesting. Tommy, why do you ask for this type of transcode?

I think that over the past few months there has been quite alot regarding upgradability of G series components. As SNS recently quoted , I guess there was mre expectation as to upgradeability than appears to being delivered.

So my next questions are:

1. Have Meridian's plans for upgradeability regarding G series components changed. For instance, it was widely thought that HDMI connectivity would be offered in the future. But so far, there is no sign of this even though HDMI connectivity is maturing rapidly and will become much more common over the next few months with other manufacturers as incorporating this as an integral part of their products.

2. At present, there appears to be no solution, other than yet another box, such as HD Max, for external HDMI switching, to allow other HD HDMI sources such as Sky HD or the Sony PS3 to be integrated into a Meridian system. Whilst the HDMAX products may offer better integration than a generic HDMI switch, there still appears to be no way of connecting audio from an HDMI source to a Meridian processor other than via yet another set of cables. Is a solution for this likely to become available or do Meridian view the HDMI connection as purely video only at present.

And what about full support for DVDA, meaning 192kHz via G98-G68 ???
The newer speakers will be able to deal with it, that implies that the processors are upp to task ?

M claimed that their is no standard for 192kHz tranfer via SPDIF ?
On the other hand the MHR is very standard ;-)
so why not another deviation from standard SPDIF spec ?
It may not be an off the shelf standard chip for it, but the price spann M is aiming at has certanly room for custom designs?

When and If 24/192 will be available on DSP Speakers (which models, what will the upgrade consist of - I mean software only as suggested in the manuals, or hw chages also needed).

Regards,
Dorian

Yes, I'd second that....when can I have 24/192 on my DSP6000MkIIs?

Cheers

Well, I'm in PAL-land but have a plasma with 480 as vertical resolution. I know we have discussed that earlier here, that most displays won't be able to pixel-map even if they are getting their native resolution as input, but some displays will. And that was just the example that came quickly into my mind, not everyone needs to scale to HDTV resolutions and I think the scaler function should be able to scale to all the standard formats.
