The Oppo was used as a Bluray player ages ago and worked perfectly. Never played a DVD audio disc on it.
I haven't played them since I last had a Meridian player.

It is set up as a new source.

I will try a different cable.

I will check the config again. I may have missed something!!

The 861 goes straight to Trifield and shows 2.0 even when I select 5.1 on the disc menu.

Hi,

The fact that it goes to Trifield indicates it's not seeing this as a multichannel source.

Try substituting the Oppo for one of the working multichannel sources (just to prove it works) and double check it's configured to see DVD-A and not DVD-V (P.47 of manual).

This all assumes the HDMI out is set to LPCM, no 'auto' or anything else.

Then you can diagnose the config file.

Paul.

So I have tried a few of the discs in my Panasonic bdp820.
After being led to believe it cannot play DVD-A's.
They all play perfectly. Obviously not MLP, but Ac3 5.1 is fine.

So the Oppo is being packed up and put back in the spare room. (If anyone is interested in one, let me know).

I have wasted my time and everyone's here for which I am very sorry.
But also very grateful for all the help you have offered

The annoying thing is I purchased an extra 3 shelf rack for the Oppo and the isotek power conditioner to sit on!! Will now just put discs on it. Oh well, you have to laugh...or cry!!

Cheers guys

Nick

Honestly, I would persevere with the Oppo.

You are now listening to a lossy compressed AC3 feed from the Panasonic.

All ordinary DVD players will play the DVD-V portion of a DVD-A, which is most music releases (only a few 'demo' and test discs don't have DVD-V content and they are marked as such).

Bearing in mind the equipment you have invested in, you WILL hear the difference.

You haven't wasted anybodys time, but please don't give up so easily, some of my best discs are DVD-A!

Paul.

Hi,
l agree with others not to give up. l have 2 other Blu-ray Panasonic players which are very good but not an Oppo which is superb.
l have had a quick look at the Oppo you have and seems very close to the 105D l have and which is definitely doing all its meant.
A consideration is to try yours in my system if you fancy a trip to Dorset or to send and l can check yours out etc.
Best
Colin

Trust me I don't want to pack up the Oppo and use the Panasonic.
I have gone over every bit of the config for the 861 and HD62, it's definitely not them.
The settings in the Oppo are all correct.

I need to try a different HDMI cable, but outside of that I am stuck.

I think I was just so happy to hear the discs playing in surround last night, I thought that will do!! It sounds great but I agree the Oppo will be better.

I shall continue with it and feed back what happens

Cheers,
Nick

Have you set the Oppo to:

1- output LCPM rather than bitstream
2- turned off secondary audio

And lastly

3- tried both HDMI outputs?

4- ensured that the video output has not been set to lower resolution than full HD as doing so will limit the audio bandwidth available on the HDMI link

Which HDMI out is connected to HD621?

Looking at the Unofficial Oppo 93 FAQ here

I noticed this:-

Are there any restrictions on using both HDMI outputs at the same time?

You can get 3D video on either HDMI1 or HDMI2, but not both at the same time.
When HDMI2 is active, audio on HDMI1 will be downmixed to stereo.

Is it this?

Main system:G65, 218, HD621 2 x DSP5200SE, 1 x DSP5200HCSE, 2 x DSP5200SL, Power Sound Audio S1512, DSP Anti-Mode 2.0 Dual core, NuPrime H16AES, 518, Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus running CoreElec 21.3, Oppo 103D and SqueezeTouch. Atmos, MQA and Trifield! smile

LPCM selected.

HDMI 1 used. I have switched to 2 but same issue.

Secondary audio is off.

I have tried 3 HDMI cables. One is brand new and delivered today just to be double sure.

I have connected Oppo to Panasonic input on HD621 and still same issue. So I would say definitely issue with Oppo and not HD621 or config.

Just done a factory reset and went through set up again in the hope it would sort it. It hasn't.

Can I actually switch HDMI 2 off completely? To see if that does anything. Can't find anything for HDMI 2 in set up menu

Hi
We could try going through your Oppo set up by phone with both on with TV picture and confirming your settings to mine.
Best

To further help,

1. What level firmware is the Oppo running (p72)?

2. What does the 'Auxiliary Display Window' show when playing a DVD-A disc (Multi-channel)?

3. What does the 'Auxiliary Display Window' show when playing a SACD (Multi-channel)?

4. What input on the 861 does the HD621 connect to (is it using single 'MMHR' or 3 separate S/P dif)?

Do you have any Blu-Ray Audio discs to try on both the Panasonic and Oppo to compare what each is sending to HD621 and thence 861 (diagnostics 'on').

You can't switch 'off' HDMI 2, but you can make HDMI 1 the 'primary' (p.52) and output to 1080i or 1080p ONLY.

Let's hope we can get you there, I'll happily look at the config file if you want?

Regards

Paul.

Will check the firmware version. Obviously not been updated for a couple of years at least.
I have Bluray audio discs which play on the Panasonic. Obviously not atmos.
I am using the famous 3 blue Meridian coaxial cables from the HD621 to the 861
I am happy for anyone to look at the config but not sure how to send it. Some help there would be much appreciated.
Also happy to go over everything over the phone.

Cheers

Nick
