Not sure if this is in the appropriate forum, but happy for the mediators to move it.

I have just left this review on the Russ Andrews website:

"Over the past 30 odd years I have been buying Russ Andrews products and as my system has grown and been upgraded, I felt that at 70 years old I had reached the pinnacle, with my Meridian DSP8000USE system.

However, with the latest edition of Connections I noticed the offer on the UltraFuses. Having recently had an internal fuse need replacing my mind was bought into focus.

I contacted John and others in customer service to see if they made a difference in a purely digital system with DSP speakers and source material essentially provided by Cat 6 cabling. Russ Andrew's advocacy is to work on the primary sources and work backwards towards the mains. However in my system only the speakers would be affected.

Finally with great trepidation, I ordered 3 UltraFuses which arrived this morning and I cannot believe my ears.

The bass is more defined, the rhythm more emotional and overall warmer, and that is just from streaming from my WiiM Pro Absolutely amazing!!!"

Having now played a number of CD's and watched movies in DTS & Dolby Atmos, the amount of sound emanating from the 8K's has noticeably increased with additional treble highlights. I am now having dial up the 5.2KC to match the volume of the fronts so I can reduce the overall volume level.

A simple and cheap upgrade I would recommend for all users!

Hi Nick

I just replaced the fuses that were as standard in the mains plugs, which were Bossman 13a fuses.

Have a look on the website for more info.

They also make Fast Blow T Internal 4a SuperFuse's but I've just fitted new ones and not sure if there would be further gain in sound.

Be interested in any other user's experience with them and your impression after fitting them too. You will get a 60 day return guarantee.

Cheers

ah....so you replaced the 13A fuse in the plug not in the 8k's themselves ?

I asked Windows Copilot the question above, this is what the Chatterbox came back with in less than 5 seconds.
Next question, is this the REAL dope or is the boy hallucinating?

“The Meridian DSP7200SE speaker uses a T3.15AL 250V fuse. This is a time-delay (slow-blow) fuse rated at 3.15 amps and 250 volts.
Here’s a breakdown of what that means and why it matters:

🔧 Fuse Type Details
• T (Time-delay / Slow-blow): Designed to tolerate short power surges without blowing, which is ideal for audio equipment that may have inrush currents at startup.
• 3.15A: The maximum current the fuse can handle continuously before it blows.
• 250V: The maximum voltage the fuse is rated to safely interrupt.
• 250V: The maximum voltage the fuse is rated to safely interrupt.

The fuse is located in the IEC power inlet module at the rear of the speaker.
• Meridian strongly advises that fuse replacement should only be done by qualified service personnel. The DSP7200SE is a high-end, sealed unit with no user-serviceable parts inside.
• If the fuse blows, it may indicate a deeper fault in the power supply or amplifier circuitry, so replacing it without diagnosis could risk further damage.

⚠️ Safety Reminder
Always disconnect the speaker from mains power before attempting any inspection or service. Using the wrong fuse type or rating can compromise safety and damage the unit.
If you're troubleshooting or planning preventive maintenance on your DSP7200SE setup, I can help you explore compatible surge protection, power conditioning, or even internal component specs. Just let me know how deep you want to go.

The Meridian 818v3 digital preamp uses a T1.6AL 250V fuse. This is a time-delay (slow-blow) fuse rated at 1.6 amps and 250 volts.

🔍 Fuse Specification Breakdown
• T (Time-delay / Slow-blow): Allows brief current surges without blowing, ideal for audio gear with startup inrush currents.
• 1.6A: The maximum continuous current the fuse can handle before it trips.
• 250V: The voltage rating ensures safe operation on standard mains power."

It is indeed that type of fuse at the IEC inlet and that is there to protect the equipment.
The power supply inside the equipment will influence sound quality.
The rating of the fuse in the mains plug needs to match the cable. So, for example, a 13amp fuse with a mains cable that is rated 5amps is not going to stop the cable overheating should it suddenly encounter more current than it is capable of carrying.

If manufacturers of mains plug fuses would like to set up a double blind listening test I am a willing volunteer for the panel. I will even pay my own train fare.

Marshman, not sure of the point you are making. A. I own 8K's not 7.2K' and B. calling a 70 yo 'boy' is very complimentary, so thank you & C. ChatAI on anything? lets not even go there!

Ian,
Chatterbox is a reference to Copilot or ChatGPT, and “boy” was referencing to Copilot.
I guess I should have made myself clear.
