I think US prices have to have their sales tax added, unlike our prices which usually have VAT included.

The Roon U.K. pricing is tame in comparison to some brands. I was recently over in the U.S. I'd been looking at McIntosh here for a passive system, and had a quick look in the States. I nearly fell over.

E.g. MC312, $7500 vs £10,500. So, the USD price, in GBP would (at today's exchange rate) be £5948. This means one has to pay over £4500 more in the UK (in other words, almost half the UK price is simply import and UK dealer fees). That's insane - how does it possibly cost almost as much to import it and sell it as actually manufacture it?

This puts the Mc gear in a completely different, more esoteric price point over here. In the U.S. they are a mid-price brand, you can purchase them at Best Buy. Here it's all premier dealers like K.J. West One. No wonder they have to lock out regional mains changes these days...

Works the other way around as well though. DSP8000XE advertised launch price: RRP £75,000 (UK) MRSP $125,000 (USA). UK price is inc VAT so £75,000 - 20% is £62,500. That times $1.3 to the £ on a good day gets you $81,250, which is also a chunk of change of difference. I know it's now bumped up to £80K, but still, if you were American you might have reason to grumble.
