I have made some progress with the 218 streaming Roon to DSP33's What a trial!
What remains is - I cant adjust the volume of a playing Roon stream. The 218 is stand-alone connected to two DSP33 speakers via its Digital Aux output going to Left and the Left to the Right speaker over coaxial cable. Comms connections are 218 Speakerlink Master out to AC12 and on to each speaker in turn. The 218 ethernet network connection is on the same network as the Roon core. It is visible as a roon endpoint and from a laptop I can access its Configuration Page and on the Meridian Control App I can also access it. In Roon the 218 endpoint Device setup is set to Volume control – > Device volume and in Roon there is a slider which looks like it should raise / lower the volume – but moving up or down does not alter the volume. In the Meridian control app likewise changing the slider or using the up-down volume control – changes the number but not the volume! Mute does work (but elsewhere in the app I can stop or start playback etc). Do you have any thoughts – as always it would be greatly appreciated?

Possibly, you might have chosen ‘fixed’ rather than variable volume in Roon - which would account for not being able to properly control volume on the Meridian app.

Hi
Are the speakers playing at full volume?
Can you try it with the coax from the AC12 and not the 218 - just to see if it changes any thing.

Thanks for the thoughts.
I do not think it is playing at max volume- what was on your mind?
Changing to the SPDIF on the AC12 did not produce a different output volume or control

Buried in my original description was "In Roon the 218 endpoint Device setup is set to Volume control – > Device volume - the alternate to this is Fixed Volume

Hi
re: Full volume - I've had instances when the volume is not controlled by roon but the device. Not likely to apply in your scenario but useful to know . I guess at this point, we have no proof that the AC12 is working. I would change the network cable between the 218 and AC12 to see if that helps. Also swap over the comms cables so that they are going to different speakers then current. It looks like the AC12 has a master out and I would have thought (maybe incorrectly) that this should align with the master speaker.
Thanks Tom

When I re-wired my system after decorating I inadvertently connected the secondary SpeakerLink output from my 210 to my 218. The result was that I couldn’t control the 210’s volume in Roon, but had to use the Meridian app instead. Resolved by connecting the master SpeakerLink output from the 210 to my 218.
Likewise, have you ensured that the master SpeakerLink output from your 218 is connected to your AC12 and onwards to the master DSP33 speaker?

Thanks for the input GMT and SpinalTap As noted I have music playing from Roon to my 218 and out through the DSP33s. I can now apparently control the 218 via its IR input using a MRS (I made my own G12 modifying one I bought on amazon . From the MSR I can now start stop turn on off mute next tract etc. with success! Also looking at the Roon app changing the volume with the MRS changes the slider in the app appropriately – BUT the volume from the speakers is fixed and does not change. (Weirdly just for a while it all worked volume and all but when i turned it on again later to enjoy my triumph it was as above - I don't know what god frowned on me and don't think I changed anything settings wise) Any thoughts? PS In the Roon app the selection is Volume control – > Device volume. PS In the 218-setup screen COMMS is set to Controller System Address 2A and Product Address 2A and under sources Audio Type is Sooloos Product Address 2A Comms Type 4C PS Comms connections are 218 rj45 Speakerlink Master out to AC12 and M5 cable to 1st speaker S5 cable to second speaker. Regarding your comments. I don't know how to tell which DSP33 is master - I will look into that - they have a slider on the back which changes between left/center and right i have one of each chosen. Nothing seems to select master or slave. I did change the rj45 cable 218-AC12 and there was no change. I also used a little Meridian adapter converting rj45 to master comms in place of the AC12 no change so I went back to the AC12 it has proved useful and functional in all sorts of ways so i think its working Again Thanks

Additional note
I ran the Legacy Configuration program attached to the DSP33s. There is no option for master slave selection mentioned in the manual just the following
Speaker use - Normal (options Normal or Center) Front Speakers Boundary - Free (options Free Boundary Sub1 Sub2 Corner) Controlled by - Meridian Surround Controller or RS232 Port, Meridian 512 other non-surround-controller Meridian product Volume control - Main (options Main Secondary or No Comms) Comms Controller Status - Automatic (options Automatic Controller Not Controller) System Address 1
Sources CD Name CD Audio Source D1 Tilt 0.0 Bass 0.0 Comms type 4C (1-7C) Comms Address 2
Any thoughts?

It's likely that one of your speakers is a master. If you haven't done it so far, swap the comms cables over on the speakers. Here is a link to some DSP33 Master Info. Thanks Tom
