Thanks Kevin - this would be unfortunate. I will come back here when BluOS no longer works, but I am grateful in the meantime to be able to access MQA from Tidal.

Anyway can’t this be fixed by a teams call of these 4 :

Donald John Buchanan - Meridian , allows high end DSP speakers to resolve 192/24 audio again

Enno Vandermeer ROON LABS- avoid a number of leavers as ROON recurring customers who go chasing a different solution

Richard Sanders Chief Executive Officer, Tidal Inc , avoid a number of leavers as TIDAL recurring customers go chasing a different provider.

Andy Dowell, Head of Licensing for MQA not sure where the sales will be without a deal with Tidal and above.

Aim. Get both the MQA and FLAC versions available to prove the benefit or not of MQA 192 /24

Suspect they will lack the courage to sort though, but can hope.

Would show real cooperation.

I cannot find confirmation on the Tidal website, but…

Hi Kevin,

IMHO We as Meridian/Roon/Tidal streaming owners have lost.
The majority of Hi Fi manufacturers and critics out there were threatened by the magic of Bob Stuart.
The debate was based on "wether" (a castrated ram) MQA is Lossless or Not! This was totally irrelevant.
There was never a consideration for the audible benefit of Meridian MQA/Roon/Tidal and Meridian Kit.
The result is a huge loss, MQA took off but never achieved Earth Orbit.

MQA is retrospectively, just a valiant and valued advance enjoyed for a short time by a minority, that has been consigned to the audio trash can, unless the new owners can resurrect rebrand and revive MQA.

Found one source of 192/24 MQA, thanks to my dealer Pro Studio Master - Fleetwood Mac.

See example. Tempted to purchase just to test. Although some challenge as only supplies to US, used VPN to get past that.

There are a number of scenarios. We just have to hope that one materialises which brings MQA back to us.

It was always precarious having one streaming source of MQA, being Tidal.

At the moment, it’s uncertain whether Tidal themselves have reneged on their promise to keep the existing MQA catalogue intact, or if it’s Roon which doesn’t find them any more.

It seems odd that Lenbrook bought MQA and Bluesound still finds MQA files on Tidal - is that coincidence or something more…?

One thing is for sure, MQA exposed a few people in this hobby as being thoroughly obnoxious - I have never seen such a vitriolic witch hunt in audio terms and it’s left a bad taste, I must say. I suspect they were a very vocal minority and the vast majority were quietly enjoying the sound quality MQA brought them.

It seems with the latest update to Roon, the MQA versions are easier to find, or is it just my imagination?

Not sure any change was made specific to MQA, but, it may create a different result.

I think it’s your imagination. Nearly all my carefully curated MQA is gone, replaced by FLAC of various bitrates (often unrelated to the MQA version - e.g., a whole playlist of MQA 24/352 is now FLAC 24/96).

Also, search in Roon now appears to be worse than ever. I removed an album which had reverted to FLAC, as there was a lower-res MQA version still available. Now Roon won’t even find the album, no matter what search term I use. Meanwhile on the Tidal app, it’s the top hit using fewer keywords.
