Hi All
I have one Meridian DSP5200HC and nothing else Meridian - I have an Allo DigiOne Signature (inc RPi4 4GB) and a Nucleus+ as Roon core.

I have connected
Allo DigiOne SPDIF out to Speaker SPDIF Digital Input 1 And
Allo DigiOne running DietPi USB port to USB-Serial (pl2303) to Null Modem cable to RS232 on Speaker

Does anyone know if I can play music out through this speaker and control the volume of course. The Allo DigiOne would act as the music source.

I look forward to your thoughts

It's been a long time, but I was able to accomplish this with a pair of DSP5000 speakers.

Here are a couple of references:

"Roon Extension to provide source switching, standby, and volume control for Meridian Audio's range of devices via RS232"

https://github.com/RoonLabs/roon-extension-meridian

Some discussion on the Meridian Roon Extension at the Roon Community.

I finally found a use for all my DSP33s.

The RPi4 USB port on your Allo endpoint does not have anything to do with Meridian comms or volume control. You would need at least a MSR (remote) or M controller unit, which would be an expensive way to go. -WRONG!-

I have used DigiOne coax out into these speakers successfully -which I think set a “65” volume level by default- so you could get up to that OK level and control through whatever software you use to play from the Allo.

EDIT: Just because I never learned how to implement the Roon Meridian extension

This setup sounds similar to yours; Allo DigiOne Player, DSP8000 and TRENDnet TU-S9 USB to Serial cable (along with a null modem adapter) --

It works.

Hi,

Unless your Allo DigiOne SPDIF output can be set to mono, I think you might need a processor to use a single DSP speaker.

Ok, good to know. I hadn’t thought of that option. Still, worthwhile looking for a second speaker.

Thank you all who considered my post and shared their thoughts

To my surprise and disappointment - the version of the speaker DSP5200HC I inherited seems to have no RS232 port!

Digital SPDIF in/out via RCA
Meridian Comms in/out via BNC
Meridian SpeakerLink in/out via RJ45

Is it possible to control the speaker through the comms BNC ports in the same way?
OR
Would I need a AC12 (expensive) or is there something similar (and cheaper)?
OR
Other ?? would getting a Meridian remote help?

I've never tried serial control over SpeakerLink, but maybe this post (#287482) can give you some ideas --

Something to wire up the RS232 Dtype to the SpeakerLink RJ45

It works.

This does work to provide volume and source selection with Roon. I tested it a while back with a pair of DSo33. Also Had the final post in the post reference above. Some how I advertanly deleted my post. Lots of support on Roon community to get it setup.
