Hi, Bruce.

As I am enjoying my sound experience with the DSP7000, I decided to buy a pair of M6 with a Media Core 200 (MC200). I plan to use the Media Core 200 only as a Roon endpoint.

I would like to know if there is a way to access the speakers configuration via the MC200. I was only able to find info about setting the speakers using the AC200 or the MS200. I don't know if it is possible to set the speakers using RS232 codes.

I would like to enable at least the EBA function in the M6.

Also, I will need the ControlPC software and Meridian didn't supply it anymore, do you have any idea where I can download it?

Thanks!

You may be able to make those settings by the Meridian Control App. Unfortunately I do not currently have a MC200 on hand to verify and the user manual is sadly quite brief. You can however set EBA (and EBC) off on relevant Meridian products via RS232 and a terminal program.

Same can be done with most SpeakerLink devices. Once enabled on the M6 it should stay that way until you go back and disable the function.

Control:PC is already on the MC200 for download. It can be accessed from the MC200 web interface.

Like always, thanks for the quick reply.

The Meridian Control app doesn’t list the MC200 as a compatible device.

The Sooloos app are still available in Apple App Store, but it didn’t mention any kind of possible adjustments.

I still need to pickup the speakers and MC200, so I have a lot of doubts.

Is there a Meridian device used to send RS232 to the speakers? It only have SpeakerLink inputs, should I build a cable from my RS232 to the RJ45 or there is a better way?

Thanks for pointing me where to download Control:PC.

Best Regards,

Jorge

You can pick up an AC200 and do it that way, or an AC12 and send RS-232 commands via a terminal program such as putty or through the command line among other ways.

That you be cool, but I live in Brazil, almost no one knows Meridian and even less people or stores have the brand’s product.

I found a used AC200 for sale, but for 5,500 USD it’s far from being a good value. Things here are expensive, like crazy expensive, so I prefer to uses that amount of money if another/best upgrade.

I plan to use the M6 in my bedroom, as a third system, I expect a lot from it, but I accept some “flaws” in order to invest in my main system.

Have you heard the M6? How does it compares to the Dsp7k or another normal speaker (have had a lot of brands, from B&W, Revel, Kef, Morel and others).

Do you know the route to update de firmware of the M6?

Thanks again!!!

Ideally, if you can afford it, you need a Meridian 218 to enable EBA on M6’s.

A Meridian 218 can access the menu functions of the M6 using the Meridian Control app. An AC12 can be used to send the RS232 codes as well if you are handy with a PC and terminal programs.

The M6 is an impressive speaker for its size. It can put out amazing bass and is nicely balanced. The. M6, 3200,3300 and inwall speakers with no displays are best used with a Meridian speakerlink source or processor where these functions can be accessed from the menus of the Device or the Meridian Control
App. Once available separately a Meridian B link would also allow access to these settings via a Bluetooth connection.

Hi,
Checkout SpeakerLink used as Digital Out (XLR or SPDIF) plus COMMS and RS232 which should help if you take the DIY approach.

Carl

I could buy the AC200, but for almost 6,000 USD it's not a good deal, considering I will probably use those speakers in my bedroom, as a third system, so my focus here is to get the best quality possible considering it is not my main system.

I am looking for all the possibilities, including buying the AC12, AC200 or 218 in a future trip to Europe (the trip + the product will probably cost less than 6k USD).

Jorge

Hi, Bruce.

I am considering the options you mentioned.

I am looking for a used 218, AC12 or AC200.

By now I wasn't able to send RS232 commands to the speakers and made it respond. The SB (stand-by) command doesn't change the light status from blue to white, not sure where I am making a mistake.

Thanks for all the support.

Regards,

Jorge

Hi, Carl.

I am reading this post and trying to implement the RS232 cable to RJ45, but until now, no success!

I am using the USB to RS232 that in the past I used to update the G68/DSP7k/DSP5kC and connecting the TX and RX wire of the to a cut into ethernet cable, I flipped both to see if it changes something, but no success.

The RS232 commands that I following are the ones I found and the paper for a DSP420 speaker, SB for stand-by and also some other codes like EAON (Enhanced bass on) and some others, but the speaker didn't change its status and I never receive a feedback message from the M6. Is there a specific RS232 codes special to the M6?

Thanks for the help.

Jorge

For the RS232 to ethernet, do I need to connect the ground?

All my tests are done only connecting TX and RX from the RS232 to the ethernet following the appropriate pins I found here in the forum.
