I use 6 of the 320s ( first edition) in my ceiling for Atmos etc - 2 in alignment with my front wides, 2 in alignment with my side surrounds and 2 in alignment with my rear surrounds.
They work very nicely and blend in well with the rest of my speakers ( probably the best choice for in ceilings with an all M speaker system ) However
My room has nothing hidden in walls etc except for the 320s as all my speakers are either floor standing or wall mounted and if I had to do it over again I would consider using 3200s mounted hanging on the ceiling all pointing towards me instead of the 320s in ceiling (as good as my system sounds- I always wonder if that would enhance the experience even further).
Please don’t misunderstand- my system is quite amazing with the Trinnov as the center piece and the 320s do work nicely.
As far as subs I use Seaton F18s- they are moderately priced - I have a large room so I have 8 of them (2 in each corner)- they can play some very deep bass- great for movies.
To get the best out of your Trinnov I recommend having it professionally calibrated by Adam Pelz ( He is very well known and used all over the USA and around the world by Trinnov owners and even Trinnov themselves for many projects).
His calibration brought my system to a whole new level.

Good luck with it all. It looks like quite a challenging space for the audio to work but having a Trinnov in the system will make magic out of it I'm sure. Those 5500s look fantastic.

Re the recommendation for REL subwoofers earlier, I was slightly surprised to see their HT range being recommended. These are "budget" RELs but that isn't to say that they can't 'keep up' with Meridian active DSPs and if they can, brilliant! Coincidentally, my 2 RELs are in need of repair / replacement & I asked REL what they would recommend if repairs aren't possible / economically viable & they recommended either the Carbon Special (£3,800 each) or the S510s (£2,300 each). That isn't to say that the HT subs wouldn't work well of course. Perhaps they thought I only wanted high-end kit based on my existing setup & incoming Lyngdorf processor.

8 x 18" subs?

I use the Seaton F18 as well in my system but so far, I am only using one. My room is not as large as Joe C's, 22x23 feet. I run my speakers full range as per each speakers individual specs and set the crossovers appropriately. There are 23 woofers total in my system that are 8 inches or greater and the bass that is generated is tremendous. I would imagine in Joe C's theater that his can generate enough bass to crush your bones into fine powder.

My room is 47 X 22 X 9 (Feet) - so it is a large space and yes I not only hear the bass- I feel it ( with movies).
Seaton subs are nice for the cost. They are made by Mark Seaton and its a small company. One 4000W powered sub can run 3 slaves. The only problem is getting them from Mark can take extra time as he is slow to deliver the product.
On another note-
Surround sound music sounds amazing with the Trinnov.
I always liked Trifield and DVD-A with the 861 but the Trinnov takes music to a whole new level (what the 861 should have become - or in a sense did).

To be fair I was talking only about specifically mentioned the Predator model which is the flagship 15" model of that range and the only model of the "HT" line that would even be remotely suitable performance wise for a project like this. It offers really good performance for the money. It's not too dissimilar than a Carbon Special but oriented strictly for HT and can be easily daisy chained and stacked. Their cost makes them more easily scalable as well compared to the competition IMO.

I've owned many brands of subs and RELs have been the highest quality and best sounding subs I have owned by far, particularly when wanting to do theater and music equally well. Both from a build quality perspective and sound quality. Output and punch without sounding boomy or taking over the room. The high end subs outside of the HT line IMHO offer best in class 2ch integration while also doing theater exceptionally well. I've never had one go bad on me in many years of running their subs. SVS is one of the few brands I've owned the developed a rattle and whose amp also went bad. The low end was also considerably "slower" and sloppier sounding compared to any REL I've had. But that's just my own experience.

A sub that has a fast attack and decay I'd imagine is what one would want with digital Meridian DSP speakers.

Is there a reason you don’t want to/can’t build all the speakers in-wall?

JL Audio subs are also worth considering, I understand. Some of these have proper 360 phase adjustment which can fine tune alignment properly.

+1 on JL. Great subs. Had a couple about 11-12 years ago which I only sold because I ended up moving at the time to a bigger place.

Well built. Also had one of their car "stealthbox" sub retrofits to a VW GTI I had at the time. Great quality. Definitely among my favorite sub brands.

GREAT inputs from so many of you and really gave me a new perspective to look into! The RELs look great as well as the JLs have always been the darlings of the subwoofer world fro a long time.

The planning has been a journey fro sure and I look forward to share images of the plan so you can see more details.

I have decided to go with the JTR RS1s. It was a REALLY tough call between these and the Perlistens. However as I want to run 8 x 18" drivers I really wanted to have an all amplification outside the room. The heat in my room now is something that is going to be a big focus for the build as at the moment when its 80+ degreed F outside we just don't go in there as its too hot.

We plan for a separate mini split that shall be ducted with 10 - 12" duct lines and 5-6 cycles per hour of air. We have a bunch of challenges that we need to solve but confident we can solve them.

I shall begin with just 2 of the subs. They will be hooked up with 240V which will give an additional head room and run more efficiently. I will then most likely upgrade 6 more a little later down the line when Trinnov roll out their software. The 2 x 18s will be a massive upgrade as it is and so nice to leave room to get another upgrade down the line and something to look forward to.

Acoustic treatment are a MUST have and one of the most important thing for the room. All acoustic panels and speakers will be 100% hidden by stretch fabric and track system. A complete 180degrees from where I am today. (And the last 20 years 😆)

Im TRYING to get engineering data so that I can effectively plan my room layout. Im not impressed with the Meridian layout suggestion / guide. The detail doesn't match up to the quality of the product and expectations of the Meridian customer IMO.

How can I effectively plan my room If I don't know the dispersion pattern of the 320.2? TBH this is really frustrating to me.

Id be open to anyone on here who has such data like an AES document.
