Re your thoughts on why using Trifield works for you - agree on both points, considering my own system. I’ve transitioned to PLII Music (with some tweaks of the width and taming of the levels of the rears) and it works well for me. I tend to now use Trifield for TV broadcasts. I’ve not tried PLII Music, will give it a go!

I bought my Trinnov as an indulgence because I had played around with Atmos using a Marantz SR7013 and I liked the results so wanted more and better. In fact, I have somewhat tired of Atmos as I notice sound (beyond 5.1 or7.1) much less when my mind is on watching a film than just listening to music.
The very pleasing and unexpected result of the Trinnov has been how much it has improved the sound (music) experience I get from my Meridian speakers compared with the 861v8 I was using previously. I was really surprised at how much better the Trinnov is for music.
I don't think (except briefly) about the wizardry that is going on to lift the lid, so to speak, on my listening room, and I know it is absolutely not for purists, but the effect takes me into performance spaces, aurally speaking, that I have not otherwise achieved at home.
I believe phase is everything when it comes to listening (we do have two ears after all) and the problem for most of us (who don't have our own concert hall) is the unrealistic size/timing (phase) of the reflections and absorptions our rooms inflict on us. Trinnov seem to have found a way to compensate, at least a little bit, for this and the inherent accuracy of Meridian's speakers respond well to the signals they receive. That’s interesting you find the Trinnov better for music than the 861v8. I’ve heard good things about them (the room correction in particular) but not heard one (little point as way beyond my budget right now). Agreed re: phase. Think it could be another aspect of why I find Trifield so pleasing, since it processes phase signals differently to straight stereo, iirc? Also the subwoofer link I posted above goes into much detail on phase and its importance (and how allegedly almost everyone implements subs wrong in this regard) which I found very interesting. Until recently, I always assumed a HT processor would be pretty meh with 2 channel, which is why i had a 8500 dollar McIntosh tube preamp in my rack that was able to be put into passthrough. I had to remove a brand new C2700 that I recently got over the summer and played a SACD through the Anthem AVM 70. Imagine my surprise when I found the Anthem's DACs to be much better than the 2700.

That’s cool! Well maybe once HT processors were not so good for music (Meridian excepted). Also, maybe it a McIntosh thing - I love their amps, but hearing one (MA9000) using it’s own DAC after hearing it fed with a DCS was worlds apart (as it should be, mind you).

Mac is much better than average, but like most hifi separates component matching is key. I know Mac doesn't support MQA so that's disappointing, but other files should sound good.

Mac amps are among the best I’ve heard. It was only the DAC built-in to the integrated amp which was just OK. But that was in comparison to a DCS Rossini. Most DACs are just OK in comparison to a DCS Rossini.
In fact I’d love one of their pre/power amps, but the price in the UK is crazy, and they have a stupid design in the power supply on the newer amps where they pot the mains transformer section to prevent voltage changes, even for the original purchaser at an authorised dealer. So you have to pay over a thousand to get it changed (we’re USA bound next year) when you’ve already paid well over the US list price in the first place.
Sound-wise, though, I love them.

To refine my statement, average in their price range. Sound, built quality etc.
Most people let themselves hypnotized by the blue light behind the needles.
Just my short experience with the brand.
