The seating is directly between the Kef R7 side speakers. The are now DSP7200.2's being used as rears. White of course.

Lovely; congrats on a great room.

One thing we discovered while doing our previous room is how much lighting they take when the room's very dark. We installed what we assumed would be plenty of overhead spots only to find out they barely registered! Then when we were selling the place I painted it in 'magnolia' and it was amazingly bright with the same lighting! You obviously understand that Bruce, based on the lighting in your room.

My original room was super dark blue that was nearly black. It would swallow light like a black hole in space.

Hope I don't get into too much water for the lack of Meridian equipment!

When we built our house in 2016, I sold my G68 and HD621 and went with a McIntosh processor to keep the look. After 6 years with the MX122, I just got rid of it and moved to an Anthem AVM 90. While I enjoyed the clean look of the Mac with all my other Mac equipment and the ease of an HDMI connection, I really feel like the G68 was a better processor, especially in 2 channel.

The Anthem and it's ability to handle 4 independent subs and it's room correction software is light years ahead of both, I am looking at adding a Meridian CD transport and the 210 for streaming however.

I’ve asked before but please remind me - what rack brand is your 7200HC sitting on?

The rack the center sits on is a Salamander Designs Synergy series. Joe C who is a member here has multiple Seaton subs. I think maybe he has 4.

My big rig has actually sported a quartet of Seaton Submersive HP subs for a decade. I adore these beasts and they are as adept at music duties as they are at HT infrasonic extravaganzas. Its been years since I shared updated pics of our dual-duty music & cinema room and there has been gigantic changes in the interim, so here goes...














While there is little in the way of Meridian gear in my big rig anymore (just a pair of 557 power amps to drive my overhead Atmos channels), I do still have a bunch of legacy M kit lurking elsewhere. I have nearly a museum's worth of old Kef B110 based analog Meridian active loudspeaker models along with a bunch of 2xx and 5xx electronics scattered around both our living & working spaces. This is our current living room set-up with Meridian's late '80s flagship M100s still going strong.

Vince; you've got a couple of brilliant spaces there; congratulations! You have A LOT of room treatment in the music / cinema room. Was it like that from outset or have you arrived at the current layout piecemeal?

And I love the look of the vintage M100s. Lovely. I think I'd run them without the grill.

One question; is that a heater in the final picture, next to your equipment cabinets?

The answer to your first question is necessarily lengthy! I've been obsessed with small room acoustics and the benefits of properly implemented acoustic treatments for 35 years. I constructed the 20'x14'x11' purpose-built listening room my big rig occupies 25 years ago. As the pics below suggest, it was originally intended as a hi-end stereo listening space but eventually evolved into the triple duty (2.1 stereo, multi-ch music, & HT) set-up we have today.











In a modest sized domestic listening environment each additional loudspeaker sound source potentially creates additional problematic strong boundary reflections which ideally should be addressed by targeted treatment. As my system evolved from simple stereo into 5.1 surround (not consistently for the better sonically! ), and more recently 5.1.4 immersive audio, necessarily so did my deepening research into and understanding of small room acoustics. Shoehorning a SOTA multi-channel system into a modest sized room without significant sonic compromise takes considerable efforts on the acoustic front. Particularly when I was also trying to achieve superlative 2.1 performance from the same system. BTW, the latter goal was why I eventually gave up on Meridian's all digital electronics and loudspeaker environment. While I stuck with active loudspeakers for this latest system iteration, I reverted to SOTA analog ATC active studio monitors and then added a complete parallel and independent analog stereo signal chain alongside the necessarily digital multi-channel signal chain.

Using a 30/35/35 balance of narrow band low frequency trapping -to- broadband absorption -to- mid-to-high frequency diffusive treatment, I managed to remove much of my modest sized room's negative acoustic contributions. In doing so I fool both the loudspeakers and the listener's ears into believing that they occupy a much larger physical space. The end result is a room and system that sounds dynamically effortless, natural, and spacious regardless of whether playing stereo, surround, or immersive audio media.


To answer your second question, that funky looking glass and aluminum contraption to the right of my living room gear & media storage cabinet is indeed a very modern looking gas fireplace.

Thanks for the reply Vince.We will soon be presented with th opportunity to create a dedicated cinema space from a blank canvas so obviously I'd like it to be as good as it can be, within certain limits of course.

Black paint & room treatments will be on the list but I don't know where to start with it all; presumably a visit to GIK's website or similar would be a good start? But (from what little I know), room treatment doesn't appear to always follow the rules. Perhaps I'll get a dealer in.

Your system has undergone massive change over the years but even the old B&W photo shows a dedicated, high-end system with a very full equipment rack! I see you've always followed the hard-floor-with-a-rug approach...

I also noticed that the middle of the 3 seats in your current listening room gets to see a lot of action.
