I've had a simple setup with a pair of DSP5000s and a 562v for a couple of years, and recently I had the opportunity to add a DSP5000C.

This is where the problems started; I expected to be able to simply add the centre speaker, but very quickly found that I needed a 565 in order to get it to work. A month later I bought a 565z3 and made up the cables to connect everything together.

After connecting the 565 and 562v I tried to set one as a controller, but when I press clear on the MSR they both say "Cont" or "Controller".

I'm sure I will have more questions regarding setting this up but I'd be happy getting started resolving this issue

Do you have a C5 cable connecting the 565z3 and 562v?

Have you comms leads connected and had a look at the 565 installation guide (on Duncan's Meridian info, above). That covers connecting a 562V to a 565 on P16 with the comms connections and Instructions on P18.

Edit: Just having a look thru the 565 Installation guide and noticed a nice diagram for connecting 3 DSP speakers to the 565 on p13. You'd connect the comms (C5 lead) from the 562V to the remaining comms port on the 565. As the 562v does an analogue to digital conversion, you'll only need an additional (single) coax lead to connect to the 565.

As far as I can tell I've made up the C5 cable correctly, but when I press clear on the MSR both devices show Auto, then a split second later they both show controller,
more exactly the 562v shows Cont and the 565z3 shows Controller. I'll take the C5 cable off and check the connections again.

P27 of the 565 installation guide suggests that you could set the unit to Not Con, so that might be an option.

Also, presumably you're set on 500 comms and not 200 comms, that you might have had on your previous set up. I don't know much about how/when or if you'd use 200 comms in your previous set up, but did notice a reference to it in the manual _ just a suggestion that may not be relevant.

Yes, all units on 500 series, I'll do some more 'testing' at the weekend. Ill update you with my findings then.

Any joy on the C5 issue? I have the same problem with a 565 and a 506. The 565 is set to controller, but they both show as controller when clear is pressed. I've checked the wiring with a multi meter according to the C5 wiring diagram and it looks correct to me.

The 565 is also connected to a pair of DSP5000s - I've just disconnected this M5 cable and I get the same result

I did get everything working, but still had some anomalies with speakers and 565 z3 responding differently to MSR key presses.
Anyway, I'm now selling off the 562v and 565 z3 as I've picked up a G68ADV, so a whole new load of fun to be had
