I have 218 and DSP5200SE. Using Mconnect for Tidal. Would it be worth buying a Farad3?
Where do you buy the bits to mod the 218 socket?

I have about the same setup, and indeed it is a major upgrade. It is totally worth the money. So I say, do!

I’m intrigued by how many 218 owners are willing to invalidate their warranty by modifying the internal PSU.

Well most folks aren't modifying the PSU just replacing it. Not that it really matters as the warranty is still valid. Meridian can only refuse a warranty claim if they can demonstrate that the cause of the claim was due to any modifications or alterations made. If the cause was not due to any modifications or alterations made the warranty is still valid for that claim.

Good luck testing that assumption: changing the PSU is a modification.

I didn't say it would be easy but it is the law and since it has precedent most certainly isn't an assumption. Changing the PSU is a modification to the unit but not to the PSU, either way it's a semantic argument and doesn't affect the legal position on the warranty.

I’m intrigued by how many 218 owners are willing to invalidate their warranty by modifying the internal PSU. It's only an 800 rrp item. Not a 100k super car. In extremely unlikely scenario it brakes and warranty invalid its not that critical. I don't think many people hard up for money are buying Meridian equipment. Warranty is only 2 years anyway?

I'm sure the quality has now surpassed the point a human ear can hear further quality improvements. I would love to do a back to back test.

Warranty is only 2 years anyway? Once officially registered, all Meridian kit is warrantied for 5 years.

So other than the power supply how do you mod the 218?

This is what I have been offered : We recommend using a GX16 input connector and GX16 (farad output) to GX16 cables, they are far better than the standardly used 5.5/2.5 barrel connectors. But we also can place a barrel connector off course for more flexibility Hope that is useful? Mat

I’m intrigued by how many 218 owners are willing to invalidate their warranty by modifying the internal PSU. Based upon the OP's feedback I'm OK with invalidating the warranty to improve my main system. There's not much more I can do other than this (without moving to 8K) so I think it might be worth it. It is already wonderful but I can't resists a tweak, and as someone said it's low cost compared to the 7200SE. Mat
