Pardon my ignorance but back when I purchased my plain vanilla 568 it was, for that time, the slickest thing around. I've been busy growing a family and now with Corona quarantine I'm going back into my HT to clean things up.

I decided, for the first time, perhaps ignorantly, to "update software". Hahaha, is my 568 that dated today? Seems the only 568 that is able to get software updates is the 568.2mm, is this true or do I need to search more?

Is there any reasonable reason to try to resuscitate my 568 in any way to improve anything at this time? If so, what can I do to make it more relevant for 2020. What's the best course and expectations for what I got?

Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Jaimero

The release notes on Meridian's site have 1.55 as the last firmware, is that what you have? From memory that does sound like themost up to date version.

I know that page is limited, someone here previously had a link to a "Wayback Machine" archived page with the firmware, or at any rate more extensive notes on each release (the 568.2mm v2.59b isn't listed on the current notes page, although it's what most people will be running in their machines)

If your attention is drifting towards an upgrade, a 568.2mm is a worthwhile sonic upgrade over the 568. And they go for silly money these days, I think it's a complete bargain for the quality on offer. Still won't get you beyond DD and DTS, but you can hook up an HD621 for access to the High Res codecs on Bluray from your Oppo.

Cheers

George

Hi,

That last firmware version for the 568 is v1.55.

It still does a good job with vanilla DD/DTS, however, for lossless multichannel (from Bluray) you would need a 568.2mm (or 861v4/v6/v8) and a HD621 (or UHD722).

There are of course non-Meridian processors though performant some would say less musical .. horses for causes as they say.

Regards,
Carl

Well, I was able to locate my needs on Wayback Machine. I successfully downloaded (well, my son did) and now I've got 1.55. Heheh, however, Its good to know I'm updated, but there's no description of what 1.55 does. Anyone know?

Also, were i to upgrade, are the G series processors more desirable sonically and capability-wise than the 568.2mm/HD621 combo?

Thank you for your help.

You gain a few more inputs and room correction going to the G series. Many say that the 568 especially the 568.2mm is a much better sounding processor.
