When the 251 showed up on the Meridian home site, the feature "DSP UnSampling Filters" was added to the 218 specs online (replacing "Apodising Filter"). It's been a couple of weeks and no one has discussed this. (It's also listed on the 251 specs). My assumption was that there would be an update to the 218 to allow this functionality. Having never seen a 218 firmware update, I'm not even sure how it's installed (except that Sooloos configure is involved somehow) so every day I launch Sooloos Configure to see if there's anything new - nothing yet. Anyone know what's up? How will I know new firmware is available? BTW, mine has been Version 1.0, Build 185 since I installed it.

So far there has been one firmware update for the 218 which was just after its initial release. Like most Sooloos components,these updates come over the internet. I would bet there will be additional features enabled via firmware update for the 218 and 251 in the near future.

I also noticed this “Unsampling” word when I was reading further details of 218. What is unsampling exactly or is it a spelling error?
It is supposed to be like the utra DAC filter options but still...?

And does that hint at new firmware for the 818 to enable the UltraDAC filters on its analogue outputs?

Typo and clearly a copy and paste error. The 218 has no such options.

No reason the 218 won't have this in the future if the 251 does. Perhaps not yet available.
Meanwhile, how does one find out and install new 218 firmware if it ever arrives?

The 251 doesn't. Same "Unsampling" copy and paste error which talks about the Ultra when you expand the item. There is no reference to selectable up-sampling filters in the 251 manual.

The text has been changed to Upsampling filters, but the rest is still there. Sounds like something may be coming.
