Hi guys,

I would like to know why Meridian does not update the firmware for a long time.
Perhaps they no longer want to develop their products. Does someone have more accurate information?

I refer in particular to: 861v8, 808v6, HD621, DSP5200/7200SE.
There was some murmuring about MQA for 861v8.

Thanks in advance,
Umberto

Just a question, why are you all red faced about products you don't even own? For most of the products you list, firmware updates are only a year or two old.

The 861 likely does not have the correct hardware to support MQA or it would have it by now. The best we could possibly hope for in the 861 would be an MQA pass through card that would allow direct only. Then the complaint would be that there was no Trifield or other presets. Room correction would then take away information that MQA has worked so hard to make sure it was there in the first place.

I think Umberto does own most of the products on that list. (As do I.)

My question to Umberto is: apart from MQA on 861, what features or fixes do you feel should be included in these firmware updates?

I think Mel was refering to his signature line which does not show three of the five product versions he lists in his post. For instance the HD621 will be soon replaced by the UHD722 so what possibly could be enhanced in it by a firmware update?

M should update the HD621 to 4k for those strictly using their processors vs being forced to buy a large rackmount piece of kit that's really designed to open up their DSP's to competing superior processor companies.

so that's a valid critique.

The UHD722 is that upgrade, is it not?

Only the 5200SE is not listed in his signature box, but even if non were it’s still a valid question.

Like Ludwig, I too am interested to hear Umberto’s take on what new features or fixes should be included.

I’d like to see SE speakers being able to fully render MQA when fed from a non-Meridian MQA decoder.
Plus MQA support in the 861 ... just pass though in DIRECT mode would be a start.

Regards,
Carl

I agree with Carl, the first step should be the firmware update for 861. Also the firmware update for HD621 should be a priority for M.

I complain that the firmware update corresponds to a product development, while a lack in this direction would appear as the desire to abandon that product. I believe that they should inform us lovers of this brand their real intentions about the development of the devices, present in their price list.

A HD621 firmware update will not give you full 4k, that requires new hardware in the form of the new 722. I’m amazed the 861 has yet to have an update/new card to give MQA in one form or another.

let them offer the 722 chip then as part of an upgrade, vs the "replacement" to the HD621 which is not really an updated HD621 w/ 4k, but a piece of kit for buying a Trinnov that happens to have 4k and looks like a rackmount design that doesn't jive w/ other M hardware like the 861.

not supporting 861v8 for Atmos is worse than bad form, esp when they've partnered w/ LG for an inexpensive soundbar that does.

not even sure if M reads these comments here...

I think you’re confusing the 722 with the 271. I’m don’t remember seeing a pic of the former.
