Why the need for the DAC when he has a G6x and 5200SE's?

As Ian suggests, you don't need a DAC (rewiews suggest that the Airport Express DAC is quite reasonable although it might not be too great with respect to jitter). The ATV resamples audio to 16bit/48KHz while the AE passes 16/44.1, which would be better for audio streamed off the NAS. It looks as if the Yamaha only has an analogue stereo output, which isn't much use into a G65.

MS200 is the cheapest option and if it doesn't get any MQA upgrade then soon enough they will be at giveaway prices as people upgrade.

Hi,

A small problem in that the Synology NAS can't run as a Meridian core which the MS200 would require. Alternately Roon will involve a subscription or payment.

Get an MC200 and run Sooloos to see how you get on.

Warning though, once you start you will want to continue as access and discovery is so easy especially with Tidal.

Yes you have to pay, but Music and software isn't free. A lifetime Roon is a bargain in HiFi terms relative to SE speakers... but in the end, it's down to priorities.

I will go with the QNAP route and I am now deciding on which model to buy knowing that, to my understanding, people use the QNAP dedicated to store music, but some use to also store and run Roon. The following QNAP models :

- TVS 471
- TS 251+
- HS 251+

My idea is to download Sooloos on one of these 3 models and I will buy or a 218, MS200 or MS600 depending on feedbacks over the 218, to play music and radio.

A bit later, I might want to expand and use Roon, then I will buy a Nuc.

In this case, would the HS251+ enough? or shall I have the TS251 for better RAM?
If I go with the TS 471, would I still need a NUC? (you understand this is to optimize budget )

So, I am debating about the best option.

Personally, I would discount the idea of the HS-251.

Optimally, I would opt for the TVS-471 if your budget allows. This gives options in running Roon satisfactorily, or Sooloos.

Then, just add either MS200/MS600, or 218.

You would then not need to buy a NUC.

A NUC would be the basis of a Roon system, plus Meridian end point. Here you would add a QNAP for music storage/backup.

In fact I don't need 4 hard drives, because my understanding is that the QNAP should be dedicated to Sooloos and/or Roon only, then no picture, docs, storage ...

I was thinking that having a less powerfull QNAP but having a NUC to handle Sooloos and Roon would be better.

A NUC won't run Sooloos Core.
