It was so long ago that I actually forgot about the written statement of MQA upgrade for 861.

I'm not sure how to create the URL link, maybe the mods can assist.
In the meantime, below are the two quotes from the Meridian document referring to MQA & 800 Series:

Two years later, nothing for the 861?! The Meridian hierarchy obviously approved the release of this three page "Guide for Meridian Partners" document.

Meridian as we know are tight lipped about product developments which I completely understand however frustrating that can seam at times.

However, once they do make public information about product development they usually follow through, albeit usually later than they announce!! One of the great joys of Meridian ownership! Two years since this document release and no follow through is an unwelcome and worrying development that I have not seen before.

It would be marvellous if Meridian would share an update on this topic, even if it was just to say that the Jan 2015 document was incorrect and that an 861 update is not in the pipeline.

At least committed Meridian users like myself could make a decision about future system developments and how to access MQA.

MQA is in the wild with streaming services, content providers, studios and DAC manufacturers all offering products. And we now have a good idea how MQA works in a digital (i.e. Meridian) architecture - we can get 24/96 output to our pre-SE DSPs from an MQA decoding device and get much of the MQA goodness.

I want to know whether Sooloos core will get MQA capability, whether my MS600s will get MQA capability or whether I should buy/upgrade to an 818v3 to get MQA. It doesn't matter so much what the answers are, I need to be informed; if I bought/upgraded to an 818v3 and found that it wasn't needed for MQA I might be a little petulant

We rebuilt the relationship between this forum and the mothership; it worked well and we here accepted the compromises that involved. Without that relationship offering us any value those compromises now seem less justified.

Off topic but...

I understand that using the Tidal desktop application, with MQA decoding activated (or more correctly with passthrough disabled), provides a large quantity of the MQA goodness in 24/96 form. That may be fed into an SPDIF on the pre-SE DSPs via a USB-to-SPDIF converter (and presumably either directly or via a Meridian processor in Direct mode).

There is no capability for restoring sample rates greater than 24/96 (i.e 192, etc.) or rendering (DAC correction) so it is not a complete MQA solution.

This may be an incomplete or incorrect understanding.

Thanks Gianni. I can see how this could work but I'm looking for a more integrated solution. MQA is a technology I have my eyes on and I think this is in keeping with the Meridian tradition- after all Meridian did figure out MHR and then MLP. I'm watching the MQA world with hopes they will do something that allows my 861 + 8000.1s to work (perhaps with an upgrade). For now I shall wait. When it happens I could see switching out my main 3 for SE speakers...

Exactly, this such a useful point to Meridian to understand that if they do a release upgrade on the 861 that is MQA/Atmos worthwhile it drives DSP SE Speaker sales even more.

To be at the MQA technology level was apart from the general SE soundquality improvement one reason to change all multichannel speakers to SE. Trifield would be able to take advantage of the 2ch MQA stream was affirmed by our Meridian contacts and discussed early on.
