I got DSP 8K Fri evening (had referred to earlier HERE) and there were couple of surprises:

• One of the 8K glass front panel (lower section) had a hit- it is cracked and broken glass pieces ; Fortunately there is no other scratch on speaker-guess it got hit on front side - no bump or dents/scratches anywhere else.
• I have v8 (v6 upgrade)- but AC12 does not work with 5500HC for HT

My 8K front are 3ft from the the wall (that is best I can do) and since I plugged them at about 10pm on Fri - I was listening to them till 2am. I did the same when I first listened to Gedlee Abbeys (which I own).

Man - they sound glorious - my nod goes to 8K as a complete speaker package for music over the 7200 though the 7200 was no slouch (it is much more difficult to compare 2 digital speakers - have to load different MSLs in 861�aaargh and I have not fine-tuned them yet due to room/apartment changes).

I have to say as mentioned by other forum members 8K had bigger scale in everything - wider soundstage, more solid heft (better bass I guess) and how can I put it more 'complete'. I immediately moved 7200s away from listening area .

The only negative was if you see the 8Ks from any other angle - you realize they are massive physically - dominate the room.
I never used sub with 8K (did not feel like it).

Questions for forum:

• About 8K front glass replacement - is it pretty straightforward?
• To connect 5500HC do I have to use modified master cable as mentioned link? - I will get these on loan from generous forum member.

More fun ahead this week on playing with these speakers.

Hi, how are you getting on with your new gems?

Bittersweet... While I can enjoy 2 channel without any issues - work life has been very hectic (travel) so I hope to tweak them later this week and also get exterior glass repair done.

Yeah they physically dominate the room if you see from side but straight up - they are ok.

I am now more impressed with my analog Gedlee Abbeys - add a sub and they also sound great.

The AC12 should work with SpeakerLink and DSP5500HC. I have a client with a G65 running all Legacy speakers. 5500 mains 5000 rears and center.

Hmm, then I must have been doing something wrong . I will re-do connections this weekend again then.

If I connect AC12 to say left (as master on speaker and made change in mconfig), connect left to right accordingly, and right slave/dig out out goes into 5500HC and slave out of 5500HC goes back into AC12 there is no sound from 5500HC but 8K L/R work ok.

If I connect AC12 to 5500HC (as master in speaker and mconfig) and connect L&R speakers - I do not get any sound from 8Ks but 5500HC works.

I have 2 AC12s and connected one to center and other to L- still only speaker set as master & L works . I made center master - only center works

IIRC you need the modified cable. Search the forum or wiki for details.

Yeah I had mentioned that in my first post above (with link) about modified cable-had done a search on this forum.. but open to suggestions.

What other (Meridian) equipment do you have other than the 8k, you have no signature in your post?

My active system below. Not sure what happened but 861 power supply is acting weird (crackling sound , and shut down. Works ok after a while) and is on its way to Meridian Atlanta.
