Thanks for the suggestion but I have already loaded EBA enabled firmware and it completed without errors so I doubt that it is likely to be a problem. Your experience is interesting however. Did the Meridian rep give any indications as to if this was considered a fault? Until fairly recently I had applied no firmware updates and bought the DSW not too long after it was released so it is possible this was a problem. I will probably have to do some listening tests to confirm.

Cheers,

Tony.

Tony, do you have the problem with movies or music?

I certainly don't have any issues with music, and after great deliberation (with myself of course), I prefer the Meridian way where the sub 'disappears' into the overall image. You can certainly tell when the sub is off when the lack of bass extension becomes apparent.

The only other thing is I wonder if the processor could have made a difference - @JackFlash has a 818v2, and I have a 861v8.

Jack Flash, how easy do you find it to configure the DSW from the 818 front panel? Thinking of getting one someday.

Well I don't know if its a problem as such certainly until a possible firmware issue was mentioned I didn't consider it a problem. Merely a difficult to integrate, poorly documented piece of kit with a certain light touch characteristic.

I would have hoped that if it was a problem either Meridian or my dealer would have informed me. At least my dealer should be aware of what I have and so should Meridian given that I have registered everything I have with them several times on their website not that they seem to keep the information or do anything with it.

I haven't really been able to listen to it properly since the firmware upgrade as my 5200VC failed its update at the same time and is now nothing more than a paperweight.

Before the update I often had to place my hand on it to see if it was on for both movies and music.

Quite frankly I am extremely close to just chucking it all on eBay and let somebody else sort out all the problems for the advantage of getting it all extremely cheaply.

Cheers,

Tony.

Keep trying. With most/all? Meridian kit you cannot brick it with a firmware update as the firmware loader is never overwritten so is always available even with a firmware update failure.

That's not to say that hardware faults with the controller have not caused issues at the point that firmware updates have been applied but that is a extremely rare hardware fault and not the same as bricking kit with a duff firmware update.

Thanks for the encouragement Ian but I think that I can safely say that it is beyond help!

I actually had a nightmare installing the updates for all my speakers. Front left and right 5200SLs went fine as did one of my 3200s.

One 3200 took a couple of attempts as did the DSW. Two 3200s however took dozens of attempts over many, many hours but eventually completed ok (Sounds like bad flash to me but not much I can do to prove it).

The 5200VC failed from the start and progressively got worse the more I tried and after a wasted few days just now sits there with all its lights on the front. The messages I was getting on the display and the responses from the serial port have all stopped.

Both my dealer and Meridian support have suggested that the electronics be returned. Sadly it has been in this state for many a month now.

Cheers,

Tony.

Tony

20 years ago I made the financial commitment to Meridian and have no regrets.

eBay suicide is IMO not an option, there are many samaritans here who will cross the road even for non believers.

Surely your local Dealer / Premium Partner can help you resolve your issues.

Thanks for your response Hector. I guess that we most probably have different priorities.

However for me the issue isn't really money it is just time and effort. I don't have a great deal of time I can spend with my system (I am away 5 days a week) and have spent an unnecessary amount of time sorting out problems when I should have just been listening to it.

I just want to simply turn it on and play music and as such I have slowly been thinking over the many months my system has been non-usable that Meridian just isn't for me. As you have proven I know that Meridian is for other people and as such I am thinking that maybe someone else could be enjoying the system in a way that I simply don't seem to be able to.

Cheers,

Tony.

Tony

Put it in the car and drive to Huntingdon, these guys don't bite and have solved many problems for many customers in the past.

Meridian Customer Service is now at level not seen for some years.

Be sure to contact M and explain the problem in as much detail as possible before travelling and get a service ticket number (maybe through your dealer).

Surely this is the best option

With the hindsight of our crossing posts, and the many M goodies in the pipeline, I respectfully suggest you find a more responsive / responsible dealer.

I am sure they would appreciate your future business.

I had thought about that but my current PP is one of the more active ones on this forum and is quite highly regarded. Perhaps I just have been too tolerant and understanding and not assertive enough.

However this is my second PP. The first shipped me 'new' DOA speakers with scratches on them, gave me no end of hassle arranging replacements (Freely admitted that he sold my replacement pair as soon as they arrived at his shop to another HH!!!) then lied to me to get me to wait many more weeks. So after several months of pulling teeth I changed dealers and subsequently spend several tens of thousands with the new PP.

Now the thought of potentially changing to a third dealer is quite depressing. I don't want to make yet another mistake in my selection and actually would feel a little guilty given that I have several issues that would need to be resolved and am not really in a position to spend a great deal of money with a new dealer so would see little reason for them to bother with me as I am sure that I would be more hassle than I am worth!

Perhaps you are right though and it would be wise for me to visit a different dealer before I make any decision on what to do with my system.

Cheers,

Tony.

Given your tale of woe. If I had been shipped dead and scratched speakers, first call to the dealer, second call to Meridian.

Sorry to learn of your troubles
