You don't need a pre with DSP5000's.
You say all your sources can be handled by the M1 CLIC which is a pre - all you need is an AD converter from the M1 to the speakers. You can get some sterling AD's in the pro audio domain for very little money. You will need to get a 24/48 capable AD for 18 bit 5k's as they wont take a 24/96 signal - 24/96 is fine for the 24/96 speakers.
You would not use the volume control of the M1, you would need to set it to full volume - you will control volume, tone, balance etc. via the speakers.
Thing is, you will be doing a double conversion with any digital sources you input into the M1 (Da and then AD and then the speakers DA), it might be worth it to try input any critical quality digital sources directly into D1 of the speakers and input the AD'ed M1 into D2 Thanks Rodney, this is what I originally wanted to do. See my post 209062, above. I think the suggestion to get a Meridian preamp was made so that its A/D functions could be used to drive the DSP5000.
