Just found Zahara from a Spotify recommendation.

"The Beginning" is an incredible album but I cannot find anywhere to buy it. MP3 only available but I want the real thing. This album is incredible and I think I now know what Neil Young is getting at after listening to this live recording for the third time.

Springsteen's High Hopes.

Bruce has been my favourite artist since 1984 (can that possibly be 30 years ago?!) & I eagerly buy every album that comes along. This one isn't a Great album by his standards but even the weakest of his (Lucky Town, Human Touch, Magic & The Rising spring to mind) all still have flashes of brilliance in them.

The real stand-out for me this time is Dream Baby Dream. Very unusually for Springsteen, it's a cover (of a 1970s song by Suicide). The original writer, Alan Vega, has said "He interpreted my song, he did it his way, and such a great way that I'm going to have to sing it that way, or not sing it at all anymore!"

When asked what's his favorite Springsteen song, Vega answered "'Dream Baby Dream.' On my death bed, that's the last thing I'm going to listen to. I'll play it at my funeral."

I feel the same way, it's just beautiful.

Any of you jazz fans discovered Robert Glasper? I am really enjoying his CDs. I became aware of him through his collaboration with Lionel Loueke who is another artist I can highly recommend.

You are learning the sax so I'm sure you have listened to Wayne (as in the one and only Shorter). His last four CDs with Brian Blade, John Patitucci, and Danilo Perez are not to be missed.

Wayne Shorter is great. From the early stuff all the way to his contributions to Hancock's "River" (which I've been recommending to Joel for some time...)

The power of Sooloos, I have The River album, Herbie Hancock. So playing some and did a focus on Wayne shorter. Found him on a Blue Note comp album and also on Don Henley "the end of innocence".

Wayne is a music god for me. I saw him and his Blade, Perez, Patitucci band play with the US national orchestra a few months ago to celebrate his 80th birthday. They had done great orchestral arrangements of his works. Esperanca Spalding was a guest but she didn't play bass-only as a vocalist. Anyway, his live CDs with that band, Footprints, Beyond the Sound Barrier, and Without a Net, are absolutely tremendous.

I've just caved in and bought the Everything Is Illuminated Soundtrack.

The full list price always seemed a bit steep, but I managed to get one from the Amazon Marketplace for a sensible price.

Anyway, lovely music, quirky probably not for everyone. The Audio Quality is top notch as well. If you've not seen the film, its also well worth checking out. I always felt it was an under appreciated film when it came out (circa 2005). Sadly no Bluray version.
