Regarding the 6 v 8 channel MMHR debate. If I was planning on buying a G65 without already owning a G61R then I may be less bothered ( although still disappointed) about the G65 'only' having 6 of the potential 8 channels which some of my Blurays output. After all, there are plenty of other advantages with the G65.
I have no idea if the 8ch matrixed output is poorer than the direct Bluray output or not and defer to those on here with the equipment (and finances) to make the comparison. But the comments posted would imply the difference isn't worth worrying about.
It is a shame that with discs being mastered in 7.1 and the HD621 providing an 8 channel output that there isn't a route to exploit this with a G series product. After all, an 8 channel direct mode doesn't seem like much of an ask (especially when spending 4500) and Bluray has been outputting 8 channels for a few years now.
But let's not spoil the good news. The fact that the G series is alive and being developed is fantastic. The G65 looks like a great update and is a welcome addition to the range. Meridian have prioritised features which make sense to the majority so should not be criticised too heavily for the omissions. After all, development is expensive and funds only go so far.

Looking at the 5.1 in from HD621, the rear panel with sub left, sub right and sub, and 3 sub blurb, I really see a focus on 5.3 for the 8 channels.
Allowing for great Trifield stereo with monitors and subs and 5.1 surround. An appealing proposition.

4500 includes UK taxes. Your Math is correct. Talk to UK PP's That is odd as the 7000 price in USD doesn't include tax. Interesting.

Generalising slightly but:
In the UK prices are deemed to include VAT unless otherwise stated. We have one VAT rate across the UK.
VAT rates vary by country in the rest of the EU. With the internal free market, consumers may choose to purchase in a country which has a lower VAT rate without penalty - there may be customer service difficulties in the event of a product failure however.
The US has, if I understand correctly, different rates of taxation on consumer purchases in different states.
The document is for guidance only anyway as anyone may negotiate a different price with their dealer/premium partner depending on circumstances such as trade-ons and other purchases.
In the spirit of Spinaltap, I would like to confirm that I am not involved in the corrupt theft of a global sport.

In the UK prices are deemed to include VAT unless otherwise stated. We have one VAT rate across the UK. Over simplification. We have multiple rates of VAT, such as zero rate (many food items etc, physical books?), 5% (energy related things, including installation), 20% (most items). Business items are normally shown excluding VAT (as many businesses reclaim VAT), consumer products must have the VAT included. But going back to the generalisation, anything audio related that people will be buying for home hifi is likely to be VAT inclusive price, unless it is professional equipment when you need to look at

There is more to that I think. We have Vietron as Dutch importer/distributor. Next there is the owned (paid for) demo gear at the local M-resellers. They all need to eat and raise families as well. You can debate if the delta is too much compared to for instance UK, but I suppose that is the market pricing in NL which is in general high compared to other countries. The turn over of M gear is not so high and the set up for M gear is often an @home service, which implies a higher cost per unit. Transparency of global market pricing is not a bad thing for us consumers, speak to your reseller about it where you go for a demo as well...

In the US, sales taxes vary depending upon the state and the local municipalities. In my area of N California, we have 3 different tax rates within a few miles of each other.

PS Ludwig, your avatar looks different. Have you had your hair done? I'm so glad someone noticed. It's so depressing to spend so much on beauty treatments for so little gain...

I'm still wondering about how the G65 will compare to an 861v4 via either analogue or digital outputs. I'm conscious that it's price is not that much more than a well specced v4.
