MMHR providing 8-channels of input via the HD621 - excellent.
Speakerlink input for a Sooloos endpoint - good enough.
Loss of USB input - minor inconvenience.
Loss of analogue video switching - no loss.
No tuner - well there is nothing that I would lose to make room for it (though a G64 DAB/DAB+/FM/AM unit would have been nice in the past).
No HDMI inputs - good to see Meridian have stuck to their guns; I did wonder whether they would be dragged down by market chatter.
The real question of course is how it sounds. It must sound 'better' than a G61/8 or how would they justify the change? The LPS has obviously proven its worth in other products, enabling it to be productionised in this new model; hopefuly also for reliability! But it must either (i) lag measureably behind the 861 (in DSP and analogue solutions) or (ii) not offer the flagship/upgradability label - meaning Meridian must continue that upgrade offering on the 861 - great news.
I look forward to reading early experiences.
In the spirit of Spinaltap, I would like to confirm that I am not involved in the corrupt theft of a global sport.
No reason why the single USB input can't do double duty as config and audio.
Also, you could easily differentiate between a G series and an 8 series device by choosing a less pleasing noise shaping method for the G series - there are six available in the 518 IIRC.

'G65 offers menu options to control advanced SpeakerLink functionality, including Enhanced Bass Alignment, Centre Elevation, Bass, Tilt, Axis and the new Source Legends custom labelling capability in Meridian DSP Loudspeakers.'
Does that mean the name configured in the config program will be displayed on the speakers?
It has a true linear power supply in it - Hopefully that means I can get a linear fitted into my G61R - it's the same chassis so I hope they don't hold out on us!
They haven't with the older 861's.

Apart from the interest in this new unit... can I just offer a big thanks from HH for posting this news/info directly with us. That is very much appreciated.
I think you might see quite a few questions about it so do feel free to drop back in if you can answer any of those.
I'm sure it will be. Probably a question of putting all of the pieces of the jigsaw into place, one by one: SpeakerLink protocol; processor firmware; speaker firmware.
