I would also ask for mConfig for Mac.

I'm also asking for 818v2 MRC for two channel, HD621 HD codec decoding to high bitrate LPCM smile

High quality headphone card for 818/861v{6,7,8}.

DSP8000 digital upgrade, including SpeakerLink inputs, EBA, new tweeters (?).

This is why it was originally arranged by the BD people in the way it was - and why I veeeeery much doubt Meridian will change the way they do it.

Anything with the word "headphones" in it, I second!

I hope Meridian doesn't do away with the outboard HDMI box. It would appear that we are on our way to a 2.0 version of HDMI and I think that will help eliminate issues. Also, there is NO way you can fit 6 HDMI inputs onto one card.

I also think that in some circumstances, there is a benefit of being able to keep your HDMI separate from the audio box. I know I don't keep mine on top of the 861, it's stacked with the rest of the digital noise.

Finally, what would the G series guys do, as that would require a factory upgrade program, which I cannot see happening.

HDMI 2.0 is not that great. They missed some important things, at least that is what Joe Kane told.
4Kp60 is in YCbCr 4:2:0 (chroma subsampling)

Out of interest, what would legacy (non-SL) 8k owners be prepared to pay for an upgrade to latest spec.?

Given the potential logistical nightmare for both customers and Meridian, and the list price of the 8ks, what's too much?

2.5k ($5k)?
5k ($10k)?
10k ($20k)? (which is still less than 1/3 of list...)

Just thinking out loud.

I am guessing you don't have to ship out the whole speaker, just the electronics to mothership / dealership to have it upgraded. $5k is a doable upgrade money for me.

Many years ago, when I upgraded my D6000s to DSPs, I just swapped out the boards M sent me and shipped back the originals.

+1 on Mac compatibility of MConfig

Actually, make MConfig browser based so that it's OS independent

An interesting idea.

I guess the Meridian back-end server would on the cloud somewhere.
I can see some merits to this:

Registered users could save their Config history in the cloud.
Equipment firmware updates could be sourced and installed directly from the cloud.
No need to distribute software and firmware.
Mconfig changes would be instantly available to users.

MRC would run in the cloud.
Meridian could offer a premium Config help and MRC tuning service.

Downsides, handling the graphics is more complex, and maintaining a snappy UI/UE but it is all possible.

Regards,
Carl

Hi Joel,

As I'm sure you've guessed, that would very much depend on what is meant by the "latest spec".

If that meant just the Inputs changing to SpeakerLink, and the possible benefits from a Balanced AES connection, then personally I'd need some convincing that the Risk of Board Removal / Shipping / Re-Installation plus the costs involved, would be outweighed by the Audible Benefits.

I say this especially in the light of Bob's answer to my very specific question on this subject back at HH2, where I recall the word "marginal" being used.

Now, if the "Latest Spec Upgrade" were to involve some other Board / Power Supply / DSP / Electronics / Driver changes that have never been mentioned specifically by Meridian, then I'd be interested in hearing what those were and what the benefits would be... before assessing the Risks / Rewards.

I.e. I'm not sure anyone but Meridian can tell us what the "latest spec" for the D8k's really means!!

+1 on headphone board for 818/861.

Regarding speaker upgrades - why not other legacy speakers? Some of us simply don't like the balance of the newer speakers, at least until it hits 7200/8000 territory, and that's a whole lot of upgrade cost before you hit them! I'd personally pay reasonable money to have my 5Ks (or potentially a pair of 6Ks at some point) upgraded to a 'newer' spec with SL, etc. Meridian would be making money out of older equipment, from people who don't want, or are unable to upgrade to newer models.
